686 AYOOB street L- Collectible or Shooter?
Massad Ayoob Andy Cannon Street L pics
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Help fellow forum members!! Has anyone seen one of these and give me some info?.I am of the opinion its not a collectible. Mr Ayoob said he still has his and shoots it once in a while and another said he had one , shot it and sold it and wished he had it back. But i dont know the story of this gun.I recently acquired on of these and it comes in a wooden case
thats lined and fitted to display the pistol. Its a 686 that Cannon milled the barrel back and made a compensator that looks like a power port. He did an action job
milled the trigger guard, bobbed the hammer and made a really neat front sight. The barrel is now 3.5 inches
and the compensator gets it out to about 4.1. The engraved plate says 1 of 10. The pistol looks unfired and I am dying to try it. I dont know if its more valuable unfired or not.
Here are some pics of this dynamite gun.Notice in the picture of the cylinder how the chambers are numbers and the outer edge of the cylinder spells C A N N O N. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

watch it shoot- its a great performer- I used 140 grain Federal Hi Shok 357 factory, not 38 special ,recoil was more manageable with the port and the action is supurb!!!

mine is number 2, i wonder if Mr Ayoob has No 1?

I'm always the only guy in a 6 page "shoot or no shoot" thread that says "don't".
BUT... that's a different kinda' gun.
That just looks like it would be a shooters revolver.

That's a neat revolver if you happen to like the L Frame .357 Magnum. I have a spare barrel for a 625 that has been converted to a similar "Power Port" configuration, though I never put a whole lot of rounds through it. I have thought about re-installing it on one of my 625s along with some "pimp flash" and a "1 of 1" designation commemorating ME, but I don't think anybody would be duly impressed by it.
If that were mine I'd be putting a lot of rounds through it.

Collectible?
It's one of a unique set, but it hardly appears to me to be of any "collectible" interest....more quirky than anything else.
No doubt: shoot the snot out it!

Pretty cool and slick piece. I'd say that since there is only 15 of them anyboy that wants one wil take it shot or not so I'd shoot it. Hell, it might be the best shooting gun you've ever had!
Post a range report when you're done.

If you have a chance to shoot anything built by Andy Cannon, by all means shoot it! The man was without a doubt a master of Smith tuning.

Haris, I don't have a L frame 357. I think you should trade it to me and
end your angst.
But if you must shoot it, go out in the yard with some 357s in it and
take care of some pesky vermin you have lurking around.
Yes shoot the thing and clean it up. Just dont shoot light bullet 357s' out of it or you will start some flame cutting.
Stick with 158 gr. 357 magnum and you'll be fine.

STREET L
That Sheen gun sure looks like a copycat down to the millett sights and that engraved L frame is gorgeous and i agree with the consensus, i am going to shoot it and video 6 fast rounds goind out of it and post it on u tube and then put a link in the thread so we can all see the reduced flip. Thanks for all the opinions.
regards

I agree. That revolver looks like it's dying to be shot! It's the first one I ever saw and I like it! I would shoot it. Just keep the maintenance up on it and treat it right. It'll look good and last a few lifetimes if you keep the round count down and stay away from the .357's in their lighter weights. Them power ports work great for keeping a .357's muzzle down. Been wanting a 586 or 66 PP for years but keep missing them or can't afford the price. Once lost one (66) by seconds on GB.
Model39. I'd take your's down for a thorough cleaning just in case there's any residual powder left over that might tie the revolver up . Lucky that ones not locked up in a vault and I would definately hang onto it as it came from the infamous cokeaholics collection. Do believe someone would pay BIG MONEY to own that one.

Andy Cannon had a shop out in Western MT 30 yrs ago...he was a MASTER at tuning S&W revolvers. He did a 25-2 for me that was flawless for many years....until I traded it off.
Personally I'd shoot it.
Bet it's SWEET too.

I of 15 indeed.
It looks like there were multiple series of guns with virtually the same features.
I wonder what the total of 'Street L' models is.

I'm in the shoot it and enjoy camp. My brother was once lamenting about whether to shoot a particularly nicely blued S&W. I told him that if he didn't, when he his daughter was grown and married, his son-in-law would either shoot or sale it.
I once bought a Winchester rifle. Just looking it was as just plain unsatisfying. I traded it a rifle that I could shoot and enjoy.

Haris, you always come up with unique and interesting firearms. With this one I think I'd have to shoot it, as it's to cool not to.

If you're going to sell it, don't shoot it. If you're going to keep it, shoot the snot out of it.
