Default Questioning ancestry of 27-5????

Guys, I have a 27-5, with five inch Bbl. that I bought brand new in, I believe about 1992 or 1993. NIB. Serial #BHF 43XX. Still NIB. I have been on a S&W tear here lately cataloging, etc. In researching this fine piece I cannot quite put my finger on the exact DOB. The SCSW list 3 letter prefixed numbers about the time I bought it, but this serial number does not exactly fall in the numbers given. Additionally, the SCSW shows that the 5 Inch BBL. was discontinued in 1975 along with the 3 1/2 inch. It is not P&R. The last digit of the serial number has a high strike on the end of the number. Kinda like the "to the 3rd power" symbol. Target Grips.

Any light you can shed on this one would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Bill

The 27-5 was out from 1990 until the -6 came out in 1993. Product code 100996 B was the reintroduction of the 5 inch barrel in 1991. I would place the DOB of yours probably in late 1991.

Fyimo,

Thank you Sir. I know when I bought it roughly but that exact serial # wasn't really covered in the SCSW. Exactly that is.

Thanks again

Bill

The SCSW covers a lot when it comes to the alpha prefix but it looks bad because S&W skipped around leaving out whole blocks of alpha numbers in the sequence and that's why it's hard to pin point a really close DOB on many models.
