Default Looking at a 640-1

Hello all, it's been a while since I've last posted. I've been searching the forum and the internets but, I just can't locate the info I'm looking for. I recently ran across a 640-1 in .357. The price is a little higher than some of the "deals" posters are getting on them. My question is this gun is not roll marked it has the laser etching on the barrel, but it does not have a lock. Does anyone have an idea of the time frame or number of guns that were in this transition period? It's a CET.... serial numbered gun so I'm thinking it's a post 2000??? rare?

thanks
bob

60-1? ?? Sure it wasn't a 60-10 or something? I don't think any .357's were made as 60-1's.

Even the 60-7 was still a .38. I used to own one. Someday, I will again.

I'm sure someone with the SCSW will be along to date that 640-1 for you.

I have one of the early production 640-1's. The early ones have roll marks vice the cheesy laser etching. No MIM either. Mine has a sweet trigger on it. Very well made piece.

I paid $425. At last months gunshow I saw two early production 640-1's. One was priced at $550 with no box or docs, the other at $475 no box or docs.

If you look on Gunbroker you should easily find a nice early production 640-1 in that price range. Good luck with your search! Hope this helps. Regards 18DAI.

thanks, that was helpful. locally it 's selling between those ranges. Plus i wouldn't have to pay for shipping. I do prefer the rolled guns, but if the price was right, I would grag it, it's a tool, not really for collecting.
thanks

I have one, seems like a nice CCW option. I have not shot it, but high quality, No MIM parts, nice gun. If you like it, buy it!

I found one 18 months ago, LNIB with everything, two holsters and ammo for $350. I don't have the SN but it's a 640-1 / 357 Magnum with roll marks, no lock.

Love it. Trigger was a little stiff, had some action work, Trigger polished, chambers chamferred, and night sight installed. Uncle Mikes Boot grip too. Nice little thumper for IWB CCW, a little heavy for pocket carry IMO. I use a Garret Industries Silent Thunder w/ Beltman Belt, plus speed strip x 1 or 2.

Again, I'm seeing many more rolled guns over the etched pieces. Was it at the end of the run?

I currently IWB a bobbed 37. I can easily do that with 640 and return the 37 to pocket carry. In my mind the gun I'm looking at is about $50 over my idea of what it's worth. Although it does have the box and papers. Not seeing etched guns with out locks makes me think it may be a bit "rarer" or just less sought after.

I've never seen a laser etched 640-1. Perhaps the barrel was replaced at some point.

If it is in great shape and only $50 overpriced, I think I would get it. It is stainless steel so it is going to last a long time.
