Default Custom Grips - Sneak Peak!

In another thread, I was considering getting some custom slim grips made.

Here's a sneak peak of an early prototype. Second iteration should be done by the end of next week.

Just wanted to share my excitement with you folks.

Looks great, though possibly a tad slim for my tastes.
I'd love to see how well they conceal though!

Very interesting. But be advised that skinny grips on hard kicking service revolvers tend to be very painful, especially when used with any serious load. I think that the edges will need to be smoothed up and polished. Some sort of palm swell will be desirable too.

Are you making these yourself or is somebody making them for you?

Yep, got those considered for the final product. I am working hand and hand with a master machinist.

i apologize in advance!. but "I HAVE AN IDEA!" don't you just hate to hear that! anyway, i have made buttstock spacers and knife grips from micarta. i like the black and the o.d.green, but you can get about any color (even different colors laminated) from several knife supply companies. it is tough, light, and impervious to most chemicals. anodized aluminum will be very cool, but the micarta might be sweet, too!

interesting project!

These are really interesting. I have a recurring problem when I fire anything more potent than .38 special. I tend to grip my guns very high on the grip frame, so high that the hammer will often catch the webbing between my shooting hand thumb and forefinger. That's not my problem, however, the problem is that recoil will often force the edge of the grips, right at the top of the grip frame back into the base of my thumb. Over time that's produced bone bruising and callus formation and a fair amount of discomfort.

So far, I've found two solutions to this problem. First, rubber grips that cover the entire gripframe seem to distribute the force of recoil such that I don't get the grip jammed back into my thumb. I do particularly well with Pachmayr Decelerators and Uncle Mike's boot grips. Second, the old style round butt service grips are quite thin up at the top and do not irritate my hand.

Anything as thin as what you're developing has potential. I'd love to see the final product. Will it be for sale?

I appreciate all the feedback. I will be working hard to make the grips comfortable enough to shoot, with enough grip to control muzzle flip.

If I end up with a final product that I truly believe has an advantage in concealability without sacrificing too much comfort, I will try to have them available for other J-frame carriers.

Definitely considering other materials as well. I have just generally liked the concept of T6061 Aluminum as grips.

I'm thinking that I like what I see so far. I cant wait to see further progress and the final product. I shoot alot of single actions and all of them have extremely thin grip panels. I have a Colt SAA that is nickel plated and have been considering making a set of hollowed out metal grip panels for and having them nickeled. Hurry and show us the final product.
