I purchased a used 625-2 that was setup for PPC. The hammer was bobbed. The LGS that sold it to me said (and I verified with the factory) that they had sent it in for the replacement of the hammer strut. A used hand and spring were included in the box.

LGS: When I was given the gun I returned it as close to original as it could, and sent it to Smith to get the hammer pin fixed, I asked that they check the cylinder gap and timing when it was there and all the repair report said was hammer pin replaced cylinder in spec.

The double action pull and let off is nothing special. It is smooth but far heavier than my much loved 940-1, 9mm or any of my other S&W revolvers. All of which are factory stock, purchased new.
If I attempt to cock the hammer for single action, there are two distinct set notches.
The 1st give a light(3-5 lb) crisp single action pull, with zero over travel. But, this notch is hard to find and 90% of the time the hammer slips past it and goes to #2.
The 2nd gives the grittiest, sloppiest, grinding *** pull I have ever had. The set point is approximately 3/16" pass the #1. The kicker is the trigger pull is way over 10lbs and has 1/4-3/8 inch travel before let-off,, plus over travel. With a little practice, I can rock the trigger & hammer almost 1/4 inch back-n-forth, without let off. When cocking it sounds & feels like an old 45 colt SAA..
I plan to send the pistol to the factory for repair. I want to have a target hammer re-installed. The smooth combat trigger it came with is acceptable.
Q: Do I tell the factory to look at the trigger AND replace the hammer?? or Replace both??
Q: Does anyone have an explanation for the double notch??

Q: I have attached a pic of what I believe is a 625JM PC 4inch barrel on a 170161. Could someone verify this?? I believe this is what I will have installed as I am pretty sure there are no 3 inch barrels at the factory, nor are there any 45ACP MG barrels.. I was quoted 125 USD over the phone..
Thanks
Jim
