Default Early "no-dash" Model 642

Hey, guys. Just wanted to show a few photos of one of my newest acquisitions; an early Model 642.

I know they're not super rare or collectible, but I wanted another Airweight and was looking for a pre-ILS and pre-MIM 442, but I happened upon this 642 on GB and couldn't say no It is in great shape, both mechanically and aesthetically...doesn't appear of been carried or fired much. I really like the rollmarks vs. today's laser engraving, the fitted vs. integral frame lug, the smaller frame and even the "Airweight" roll mark on the barrel

It didn't come with box or papers, and was wearing a set of standard magnas. I added the Tyler-T and smooth magnas...they feel great and look pretty nice too, in my opinion

I suppose that's it. Just wanted to share this neat little ~20 year old carry piece with you all.

Thanks for looking.
-Rob

Both of these guys came in together this morning

Sweet! Mine is a 642-1, no lock, with the coated frame. I think I'm going to have to look for one of those though, I really dislike the coated frame.

That's a sweet looking pocket pistol! You sure have good taste in firearms. That one looks like the one you've been searching for all this time. I'll be interested to hear how the finish holds up over time.

I bought one just a bit older than yours (BKA1072) when they first came out in 1991. To my mind, it is the perfect small concealed carry revolver. I carried mine just about constantly and shot it quite a bit. The frame cracked this spring. It was like losing a good friend. I already had a spare on hand, and S&W replaced my old one with a current production gun. I won't be without one. Or, two.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

DH: I forgot about the difference in finish when I was thinking of the things I like about this older 642. From everything I've read, the no-dash guns are supposed to be much more durable than the -1's and -2's...in regards to the finish, anyways.

BUFF: That's too bad about your 642. I've read a few of your posts concerning these Airweights, along with your write up on "Old 642's, New 642's"....all very informative. Looks like I might need to find a backup for this one, just in case!
