Default What's the skinny on the 629 V-Comp?

I've read alot of good things about it, and read a number of problems as of late about the quality of work coming out of the Performance Center.

I'm torn between the 5" 629 and the V-Comp. I'm wondering if the V-Comp is worth the extra money coming from PC. Whichever one I decide on will see mostly the range with mid to warm 240 gr. loads and the occaisonal woods carry with some hot 300 grainers. Will both of these guns handle the heavier loads fine?

I really dig the bead blast blue finish on the 329pd and would consider sending the new toy in for such a treatment. How would it hold up compared to the brushed or matte stainless steel? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thumbs up

It's been a while since your post. You probably have already purchased your revolver. Just wanted to say for whoever else views this. I have recently purchased a 629 4 inch V-Comp revolver and I love it. My father has a Ruger Redhawk and my friend has a Ruger super Redhawk and a model 29 7 inch. My 629 is easier to shoot with noticeably less recoil, which surprised me due to the shorter length of the barrel. The only thing that concerns me it seems the matte finish collects more carbon faster and is harder to get off. I'm open for any suggestions on cleaning. Thanks Phil.
