J frame magna grip screw.
IMG_2133.jpg
Hi all,
I'm new to the form but been lurking for a while. I decided to join because I have a problem and was hoping some of you experts could help. I uploaded a picture(hope it works) and was wondering if this is a standard grip screw for magna j frame grips? I have a new model 642 and refinished a old pair of magna grips. How ever the screw doesn't seem to work, like the diameter is slightly to small doesn't seem to be engaging the threads. The grips were give to me and the screw was with them. Thanks in advance for all the responses.

Welcome to the forum. This might should have been posted in the gunsmith section but a mod can move it later if he wants.
First and foremost, I'm not an expert. The screw in the pic looks similar to a correct one but I don't think it is, especially after your description of how it didn't fit quite right. It may be a grip screw but not for your grips.
They are available though.

after further checking it out I'm convinced it's not the right screw. Where would anyone find that screw? I quick google search didn't turn up anything. Also, sorry for posting here, didn't realize there was a gunsmithing section.

The screw you need is a 5-44 fillister head screw. They are available at some hardware stores in the gun screw drawers. I'm not allowed to tell you where because of forum rules. I got put on probation earlier this week for helping someone with the same grip screw question.
