Default Grips for 629

Can you guide me on grips for a 629? I recently picked one up and it has Pacmayer decelerators it seems to hit my hand a bit hard. I think the 629 with those grips is a bit thinner than my Anaconda. Its not horrible but wears me out a bit quicker.

I like the Hogue grips and wonder if they would be any better?

Thanks Hank

I have these on my N frames - X frame Hogues for the 500 S&W. They fit round butt K, L, and N frames. They cover the back strap and are wider and softer than the Pach Decels. You can only get them thru S&W.

Product: Model 500 Impact Absorbing Hogue Square Butt Conversion Grips

BIG +1 on this. I have the X Frame Hogues on my 5" 629 and they are terrific.

My 629 came with a set of combats on it and I figured it would beat me bad but they are more comfortable than the Hogues I put on it, But to your question, the Hogues are much more comfortable than the Pachmayr's (at least to me).

NONE of the finger grooved grips fit me. I use these Ahrends tactical conversion grips. They give good control.......

I have a set of Ahrends Tactical grips (with grooves) on one 629 and Ahrends Retro-Combat (with grooves) on another. Ahrends grips fill your hand better than Hogue and allow a higher grip. The Retro grips are more comfortable but I get better control with the flat-fronted Tactical grips.

Rubber grips are just too sticky for me, and tend to rub raw places after a few rounds. The smooth wood grips move just enough to prevent abrasion, but not so much you need to adjust your grip each time.

+1...I prefer the Hogues as well to shoot. I like Kuracs and they feel really good to hold but not so much to shoot if you dont have big hands. There is no give like the rubber Hogues. I have never liked the Pachmayr's for my hands, as above they are to "sharp." The bad thing about grips with finger grooves is that sometimes the fingers dont fit the grooves. I am lucky in that mine always seem to fit any finger groove grip.
