Default 19-5 6" Blue

How desirable is the 6" model? I have an opportunity to pick one up pretty reasonable, I think. The pics look good, no box or papers. Ser# afd xx68 can't find this prefix in my S&W book anyone have any add. info on it? It is described as Pristine condition.
Thanks

I am a big fan of the M19 in all configurations. However, in my area, you will find the 6" more plentiful than the 4". Price wise, the 6", depending on condition, is about $50 to $75 less than the 4". Hope that helps.

That would be a 1984 model. The -5 engineering revision indicates that it doesn't have a pinned barrel.
Better than 500 would put it in the "pretty reasonable" category,in my humble opinion.

If you intend to use it in the field, the 6-inch gun is the best of the three. It combines the ability to get some good from the .357 cartridge with a reasonably lightweight package that is capable of pretty good accuracy. The other lengths may whip it in terms of handiness in close quarters, but that is all.

The late gun writer Jeff Cooper once made that same point: for a backpacker or hiker who can carry openly, the six-inch M-19/66 is an excellent combination of power, accuracy, and convenience. With .38 ammo, it can take small game effectively.

If you're just someone trying to make a profit on a gun you sell, you may be better served by a shorter barrel, and for all-round use, I favor the four-inch.

My M19-5 6" is a real sweetheart. I bought it back in '82, and the only problem I ever had with it was a broken hammer "nose" (firing pin). Now it's my wife's favorite, and I barely get to fire it.
