Uncle Mikes Revolver Grips

I used to immediately remove the uncle mike grips installed by the factory. Now i find that I like those ugly uncle mikes grips the best. Unfortunately, these grips no seem to be in short supply

From what I understand, Uncle Mikes and Spegel couldn't see eye to eye and since these grips were Spegel designs, Uncle Mikes could no longer produce them. Anyway, they have been out of production for several years.
 
Although no longer produced, they must have made a boatload of them as they're not too difficult to find. I see them on the auction sites all the time and they come up often enough on the Classifieds forum here. Place a Want to Buy post here and you'll probably get someone willing to sell what you need.
 
The Uncle Mikes are particularly good on the J-frames. They fill the hand a bit better than a lot of the smaller and thinner wood grips that don't cover the backstrap. And the Uncle Mikes textured rubber helps keep the gun from twisting in your hand on recoil.

I'd be careful about buying them directly from S&W, IF they are made like the ones that come with their current J-frame guns. Those "look" like the Uncle Mike's, but they are not cut-out enough to use HKS speedloaders are easily as the actual Uncle Mike's are. I have two 642s, and both of them came with the S&W copies of the Spegal grips that Uncle Mikes used to offer. I cannot use HKS speedloaders, without binding, with either one of them. When I put on my old Uncle Mike's, VOILA, the HKS work like they always did in the past. So, at least in my experience, there IS a difference between the actual UM's and the S&W versions, and I prefer the Uncle Mike's, hands down! For what it's worth.... Take care, and God Bless!

The current rubber grips on Smith revolvers should be Hogue grips.

Anyone here have a feeling regarding the new Hogue Bantam vs. the older Uncle Mike's boot grips? I am intrigued that the Bantam grips snap on and don't require a screw to hold them on but I don't own a set so I'm not sure how they'd compare to the Uncle Mike's. Speedloader access is definitely needed.

Read the link and look at the picture on it.
They ARE the original Uncle Mike's grips
and NOT the mushy junk Smith puts on the J frames now.
 
I have a set of the K-frame Hogue Bantams on my 64-7 and couldn't be happier with them.

I love the round butt grip profile and these Bantams allow me to keep the exposed RB backstrap but add more grip and fingergrooves for a functional grip. I don't think these are the choice if you want a "looker" as your carry piece, but these grips are very functional and are good for CC or if you're like me, and just like a compact grip. These fit my hand perfectly.

I have tried most everything on my 442.

I had banana grips, those awful Bianchi grips, Crimson-Trace, standard wood with T-grip and I always go back to the Bantam.

They, without a doubt work the best for me!

I did check that link, but wasn't sure about whether they were actually UM's, of just S&W's version, without the logo. IF they are the real deal, and Uncle Mike's made, then, at least for me, they are the best for J-frames.

I have a pair of the Bantam grips from Hogue on my M60, which is right here with me, and Uncle Mike's on my M642, in my pocket, in a Mika's pocket holster. They both work with HKS speedloaders, which is why I use them. Between the two grips, it's hard to make a choice, as I like them both. If I "had" to choose, I'd probably use just the Uncle Mike's, as I've had them on my guns for a very long time, beginning with my M60.

But, for the new Uncle Mike's copies with which both of my M642s came, I cannot use them as they do NOT work with HKS speedloaders, without lots of binding problems. I've tried them on all of my J-frame guns, and at least for me, they just don't work with HKS. Others might have varying mileage, but I will not use the S&Ws, as they came on my 642s. Hope that helps some. Try both the Bantams and the Uncle Mike's, and see which one you like best. Good luck in your decision, and God Bless!

Thanks guys I have found a couple of auctions on ebay and such. Most of the K-Frames that I have seen now have the hogue grips.
 
Just to clarify, there were two types of Uncle Mike's J-frame grips. There was the boot grip and the extended boot grip.

The extended boot grip extended about 3/8" below the frame and also covered the backstrap. The regular boot grip ended at the bottom of the frame and left the backstrap exposed.

It appears that S&W still sells the regular boot grip. However, they do not appear to offer the extended version.
 
They are the best ones for CC; small and a good grip texture. This is my old 37.
