Default 686-1

I finally got me a 686-1 6 in! I have wanted a 686- 586 for years. I just never got around to getting the paperwork to purchase a handgun in nj.I was shooting service rifle for 25 yrs.I bought my first S&W in nov a mint 28-2 s prefix.I thought that was heavy compared to my 4 in GP 100.Untill I got the 686 wed.The 686 is heavier than the 28!The 28 shoots very nice.I will be shooting the 686 mon.
They have a 27-3 at the shop I got the 686 from for $500. Looks almost as nice as the 28 just not pinned.I just love the feel of the n frame in my hands!

Congratulations. Good to see you were able to get a gun you have wanted for a long time. How about some photo's as some here would say if we do not see the photo's it doesn't exist.
Let us know how the range time goes.
Frank.

Great. The -1 had the radius stud package installed, so you did get one improvement over the ND. Now for the news you may not like to hear. This gun likely falls under the recall for the bushing and hammer-nose replacement. Check the model number under the yoke and look for an "M" stamped over that number. If it has the "M", it has been sent home. If not, you may elect to send it home for the upgrade on Smith's dime.....shipping and all.

I don't want to get into it here, but poke around on the forum and search-out the various threads and posts concerning the bushing upgrade. The choice will be yours....some folks do and some folks don't. I am one of those that did on a ND and regretted it. I now have a -4 with 4-inch barrel that I discovered I liked better anyway.

This is certainly not a bash....I LOVE the 686 and you have a fine gun.

Congratulations indeed. The 686 is one of my favorites. People seem to either love or hate the heavy full underlug barrel but for pure shooting enjoyment I'm a fan. My L-frames are probably my favorite shooters. You probably won't be packing that big ol wheelie much but for range shooting it is hard to beat. I've got L-frames in 6", 4", 3", and 2 1/2" and I like them all. 3" is probably my favorite for carry and 4" to shoot. Enjoy it!

Congratulations on a great gun - excellent range. I was hitting patterns at 75'. My 6" 686-1 shot farther than I could see clearly! I traded mine with a little cash on a 686-4 4".

That's why I put a Burris Fastfire on my 6" 686-1! But my 4" 686-2 has the original sights. Both have Hogue Monogrips - the wooden grips are tucked away in the boxes.

Yes I love the feel of 686.It makes the 28 feel better in my hands! The finish on my 686 is better than new S&W pistols!
When I bought the GP100 was looking at a new 686 the finish was terrible!I looked at the GP and was amazed at the difference in stainless finish. Then saw the $200 price difference got the ruger 4 in.First thing I noticed on the Smith was the lock .UGLY!!!! I got the 28 and feel it is the best quaility of workmanship!I thought Garandittus was a bad sickness but the S&W flu is worse. No cure I have been told.I am looking for a 586-4 now. S&W are addicting!
