629 5" Classic Holster needed
Just picked up a nice, clean 629 Classic 5inch. Don't have any leather for an N Frame for a bbl length longer than 4". This weapon will be carried afield/woods carry.
Would appreciate it if you all would show a photo or two of your holsters and weapons 5" 629/29s preferred. Need to make a holster decision.

5 inch Classic Holster
Hi,
I used to have what you now enjoy and finding 5 inch leather is a bit of a challenge. That said, look at El Paso Saddlery (the Tom Three Person is excellent) or Kramer. Both build wonderful holsters for this barrel length.

Here is my 5" 610 in a Dillon (made by Mitch Rosen) holster. Your Classic will take the exact same leather. I have found it to be a great holster and the $75 price tag is very reasonable. I think 5" is the perfect length for both K and N frames--wish I could afford more of them! Good luck.

This was a friend's 629 that had a 5" Classic barrel from a limited run put on at the factory.
I found this holster for him...
If I recall correctly it was from Dillon... I think that DeSantis also makes a Speed Scabbard that looks like this one just a little higher ride. A guy that I hunt with who has the same gun just bought a Simply Rugged and wore it all hunting season as a backup to his .308 rifle... He found it very comfortable...

I found the ideal holster for my 629 5" and after much looking I got the Bianchi 5BHL holster for the N-frame S&W. Fantastic fit, quality leather, and even lined to cut down on holster wear on the finish of your gun. It also has a slight forward cant which makes the gun easier to carry and draw. I thought I would have to settle for some fit-all holster for the more popular 6"+ revolvers but the Bianchi 5BHL really is the holster for this gun. Not sure if I am allowed to say where I purchased it on this forum. Would show a pic but not that computer savvy.

Holster recommendations for 629 classic 5 in
This thread contains excellent advice on the very same question, I went with the Bianchi 5BHL and am very happy, but the post contains several other good options.

Yes the Bianchi 5BHL is just for the 5' N-frame S&W. You may get it to fit another gun but it is for the 5" N-frame. It fits just like a custom holster as far as I am concerned. Not a fancy only on Sunday holster but just a high quality holster. And I am pretty picky with how a holster fits the gun and this one works for me.

I was going to recommend the Bianchi also. MidwayUSA carries them. They're shown to fit a 5.5" but it's for a 5". I got one for a 1917 with it's 5.5" barrel, just won't fit, but it fits a 5" perfectly. Bob!

I use a 7X chest holster system for all of my field carry pistols...
I have one for my 4"N-frame and it is awsome...Here is a picture with my 7 1/2" SBH Bisley Hunter w/with a scope. This gun is heavy, but it still rides nicely in the chest rig.

Again thanks for the responses. I'll check out Midway and Dillon, but I am left handed.

I purchased mine at Optics Planet.com and have always had a good experience with them with free shipping. Bianchi does show left hand versions of this 5BHL holster.
Sorry if I passed on misinformation as I see the Bianchi 5BHL model holster is made for other guns but there is one that is 629 5" N-frame specific. You just have to be careful when ordering to find the right one for your gun.

Uh Oh, being wrong-handed makes it alot tougher! DeSantis, Mitch Rosen, and Kramer will all make you a lefty, but you will have to pay a little more. Also, the Galco Dual Position Phoenix is a good general purpose holster. It lets you carry strong side or cross draw. It is as pricey as the others, too! Good luck.

Bianchi 5 BHL is a designation that has nothing to do with barrel length. They do make the 5 BHL in 4" and 6-1/2" versions and I own each. Perhaps they also make a 5BHL for the 5" Classics?

Lobo enhanced pancake w/my old 625 5".
I carried my 5" 629 deer hunting all season in a Simply Rugged and couldn't have been happier! I'd recommend it over the Lobo.

bronco45,
Here is another Bianchi option that could be easier for you to find. Though this is a right-hander it is also made for a lefty. This is a 6 to 6.5" Bianchi No. 111 Cyclone cut down to five inch by a leather specialist to fit my 629-6 five inch. Perfect fit....

NOW YOU'RE IN TROUBLE, BRONCO ! ! ! I'm a lefty also. I like the Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake holster which I wear LH Crossdraw for my big bore N frames.....

Well after blowing my horn about how I loved the Bianchi 5BHL and how it fit my 629 Classic 5 inch barrel I found a better holster for my needs. One problem I ran into with the 5BHL was when riding the ATV with the wife behind she always was complaining about how the holster/barrel was uncomfortable and poked her in the leg. Then if I moved the holster around so it didn't bother her it was uncomfortable for me. Another problem as with any belt worn holster is you can't wear a pack with a waist belt either. I did buy a shoulder holster and hated it because every time I wore more or less clothes I had to readjust the whole thing which was a PIA. The shoulder holster was also in the way of any pack you might wear shoulder straps. Solution for me was the Diamond D Leather chest holster. It is the finest in both quality of leather and craftsmanship. Doesn't bother the wife riding the ATV, gives instant access no matter what amount of clothes I am wearing and will adjust with one quick pull of a chest strap. Wasn't cheap but you definitely get what you pay for and was well worth it to me. I really could have saved money if I had done this in the first place.
