I have a buddy at work trying to get rid of what he says is a model 25-5 PC in 45LC. He is on vacation at the moment, so I cannot see the gun until after Christmas. The problem is I can't find any information in my, "The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" 3rd edition book. Is it possible for someone to have sent in a 25-5 to the PC shop to have it gone through? If so, is it worth the 800.00 price my buddy wants for it? Thanks!

Well, it depends. But we won't be able to venture an opinion until we have more informatioon, like the beginning of the ser #, and some good clear photos. Kinda hard to say much till then. Flapjack.

The Performance Center did not create any revolvers in 45 Colt ctg.
until the 625-6 in about 1995.
then later on the P.C. made the 25-10s , 25-11s , and 25-12s . these, in 2001.

A 25-5 could well have been sent back to the P.C. for work,
but it would not bear the P.C. crest under the thumblatch like
other production P.C. guns.
If your friends gun is in fine condition and in a barrel length
that you like and would use, $800. may not be out of the question.

I have paid less for most of my standard model 25s' in 45 Colt though.
But then again I hunt for deals all the time.

Nice gun! It's pre-'82 or thereabouts, pinned barrel. It looks to be in very nice condition, so I'd venture a guess that it's worth $700-750 or thereabouts, but others will need to chime in here because I am really not much of an expert on present day values.
