Default Model 649 357 Question

Hey Everyone,

I just bought a used Model 649 (pre-lock) and was considering polishing it to a gloss finish. What are everyone's thoughts? Is that a good or bad idea?

You can if you like - it may be difficult to keep it as glossy as when you first polish it. Some people like shiny guns and others don't, but you can always return it to matte finish.

That's what I'm going to do with mine right after I get it. Just have to find one for a good price. Those pre-lock magnum 649's are hard to come by.

You can strip it down and bead blast it - removes scratches and returns the finish to matte.

Mine's a little shinier than when I first got it.

Who knows, it may be a high polish, someday.

I bought it used for $350. From my understanding, it was a rare find at a great price.

It's a 649-3? Yeah, rare find... I'm jealous!

I have a 649-5, still working on a good solution to the ILS debacle. Fantastic gun, very manageable with 357, or using +p with only the hogue bantam grip.

I wouldn't do the mirror polish job, if you are planning on using it for a concealed carry.

The 649s are great guns. I have polished lot's of guns in the past but I never carry anything. I just like polishing them and I like the looks. I have removed matte finish on new guns even before I shot them. I never did like matte finish on a gun. Different strokes for different folks.
