Default Rear sight blade troubles

I recently picked up a 66 3" and am looking to change the plain sight blade that came on it to a white outline blade. Now I did a little research and determined that I needed the .146 blade. So, I got on Smiths website and ordered one. Now I have owned model 19's in the past that have had the white outline rear blades. One thing that I remember about them is heavy white outline that is very white and very easy to see. The one that I got from Smith is very dull, thin and extremely hard to see. Has anyone had this problem also, and where can I get an old style blade that has the good solid white outline on it? Any help would be appreciated.

The old ones are much better. There is a member, Nyteman 44, who has some of the old complete white outline rear sight kits. The ones that I have got from him were the vintage ones with the heavy white paint. If you want a good one, just put a "want to buy" post on the forum, and if he sees it, and still has some, I'm sure that he will contact you. I bought 4 sets and have used them all. If you aren't careful, when wiping down your gun, particularly if there is cleaner on the cloth, you might just wipe the white paint right off the newer ones. I hope that this has been helpful.

Now that you mention it -- my 66-7 (2005-2006?) has very thin and dull white lines as well. Wonder when they made the change?
