Default model 617 question

Looking to replace the front partridge sight on a 6" model 617 with a fiber optic one. Does anyone know what the height of the front sight is on a stock gun?

Looking at smiths web page and they offer replacements at .250 and .300

Tried calling Smith and they're down until after the new years.

Thanks and happy new year to all.

Plus 1.It can be ordered directly from HiViz. Your original sight is a "patridge" sight, btw.

Just bought a HiViz for my 617 with 6" barrel. Their parts list show which model is correct for the 617. You will need to drill it for the front sight blade pin.

As others have indicated, they have a special front sight just for the 617.

It is a super easy job to install it.

Take your time drilling the front sight and drill from both sides and let the holes meet up in the center.

Also a stone and a nylon hammer doesn't hurt as it can be a tight squeeze.

HiViz #SW617 is the right one. Call Brownell's - they will have it drop-shipped, if they are out.

I liked green...

When R&R'ing that front blade on the 617:

Be absolutely sure to support the area surrounding the sight retaining pin (side facing down), when driving that pin with a drift punch.

It's also a good idea to mask the driven side, to protect it from possible misdirected drift punch marks.

I just placed an order for one of the Hiviz sights and have a question, can you order replacement light pipes or do you have to replace the entire sight? Reason i'm asking is if you wanted to change colors or broke the glass. Thanks
