Anyone own the 686 Talo?
Love the full lug and unfluted cylinder look. I've always wated a 686, and this gun having the unfluted cylinder makes it that much more perfect. Great looking gun.

I bought the 5'' last February to replace a 686-4 6'' I gave to my son for his 18th birthday. I have approximately 2000 rounds thru it. The fit and finish are as good as on any of my 686s, the -4 included(the -4 is supposed to be the most desirable 686). The trigger was like any new Smith that hasn't been fired enough but is now buttery smooth and my son actually prefers it's double action pull to the -4 I gave him. It is as accurate as any of my other smiths and the only problems I have had are the standard loosening of the ejector rod, cylinder latch button and sight screws. Nuttin a little blue loctite couldn't fix. It did take a coupla hundred rounds of jacketed ammo to smooth out the rifling and to bring group size down, but it also could have been me gettin' used to the grips.

Own 3 M&P pistols that have been nothing but top notch, but they are all a few years old now. And own a .460 revolver that also is a few years old now, and has been top notch as well. I didn't realize that S&W was having some QC issues, but wouldn't be surprised with the volume that is going out these days. Seems to be an issue with several companies. I'm not in a huge hurry to get one, I just love the look of a full lug and an unfluted cylinder and have always wanted a 686. Kinda figured this was everything all wrapped up into one, and at a decent price. I'll be very interested to see how S&W resolves these issues. Keep us posted.

Hickok45 did a video on the 3" Talo. He liked it so much that he bought the sample. I've seen several of his videos but I've never seen him have as much fun as when he shot the 686 Talo 3".
Google that and watch the video.

Smith and Wesson 686 TALO
I have one and it is the last Smith and Wesson gun I will ever buy. I have the TALO version and the fit and finish is awful. It looks like someone took a wire brush to it. I have a Ruger GP 100 and it far above the finish and the trigger on the Smith is suited for a gorilla. Of course I wouldnt let a gorilla shoot it,he is not consistent with his groups and waves the gun around a lot. If you are in the market for a 357 revolver check out the Rugers they are better.

Suggest you sell your 686 and go join the Ruger forum.
