new to me S&W 629 Talo 44 magnum
S&W 629 w/3" barrel Talo edition 44 magnum
I just picked her up and I've put about 100 rounds already and she shoots as good as she looks. Not my first Smith & Wesson, but currently the only one I own.

Welcome to the forum! These are great guns. Surprisingly low recoil and very accurate. Had to special order mine. When they brought it out for me to look at, a couple of people at the counter were interested in it. The employee said " You've heard of the Ladysmith? This is the Mansmith!" With those wood grips, it actually does look like one, only bigger. Enjoy your "Mansmith"

Nice gun! Are the grips broke?
Go Figure!
"chez323" ~ Another forum member "called me out" (so to speak) on the post I made above so please let me re-phrase the question. Check the grips on the bottom and make sure they aren't cracked which I hope aren't. Otherwise, enjoy it - they are a great combo!

That's the one, I was in looking at some Sig AR's and I saw the used gun case. No AR that day, I picked it up and the used Vector AK under folder they had.

Great looking gun there Chez, I'm keeping one eye open for a short barrel, keep looking at the 627 in the showcase at Smith and Wesson.... it's a beauty too, in 357.. I think I have those same grips on a 686 custom built gun I picked up, think I have a pic somewhere around here of it.. enjoy
Happy New Year

Not to detract from anyones gun but, you'ld think the "horns" on the grips could be a little fuller at the top.Thin and short fitting grips at the top of the recoil hump sure can't make otherwise well designed grips any more comfortable.Sure are purty tho'. Nick

I just bought one of these (629 TALO) and then I saw this thread...so, with sinking heart and shaking hand, I unscrewed and removed the grips. Mine are fine! Whew!
Sorry...I do commiserate with anyone who has this problem, although I can't help but feel some relief that I don't have it as well. (Not something I get to say very often, with my usual luck.)
Does S&W still have Altamont build their grips? I've bought a number of grip sets from Altamont over the years, but here lately it seems their quality and service is slipping.

Sweet gun!
I agonized over getting that Talo version or the PC. For some reason I really like the non-fluted cylinder so I shelled out the extra cash for the PC model. Everytime I see the classic lines of that Talo 3" I wonder if I made the right choice.
Enjoy it!

It is a tough call as my interest in S&W revolvers started with my buddy's PC 44 magnum with an unfluted barrel......... I was torn too, but this one was in the used rack at a great price and as far as I could tell was unfired/fired very little if any. Someday I'll have an unfluted cylinder PC S&W...... as I love that look!
