That dark brown grip doesn't seem to fit your 617 well. We should compare our 617's and maybe trade grips.

Is it common for 6" 617s to have round butts? All of the 6" 617s I have seen are square butt. I assumed that 4" 617s would have round butts. i need to look at my SW bible.

the -1 change signified change to round butt in any barrel length, along with other changes. all 617 No Dashes are SB regardless of barrel length

Those are pretty nice grips and they are becoming a bit spendy to acquire. Not long ago, I lucked into a 4", 617-1 that is a square butt and came with factory combats. It is likely an earlier one, with S&W still transitioning the parts they had for the 617 no dash to the 617-1's.

Oh yes, but I just bought a Ruger Single-Ten. She's lighter and obviously different from the 617. I'm trying to decide which will suit me best for carry in the woods and reaching out to pop a groundhog or two. The 617 is one for one so far.
