S&W 17-5 4" bbl PIC
Not one you see everyday. I bought this in Norfolk, VA back in 2000 or so.
Made 1988-1989 only. In 1989 they changed to the 17-6 with the full underlug bbl. It's basically a model 18. SN AVN09##
Shoots and points like a K frame should. Superb double action pull, looks to be all original. One of my favorite versions of the K17.
It doesn't get nearly as much use since I got a 4" 617 10 shot.
Shooter grade, not a big money gun but quite hard to find.

My 17-5 is similar, shows to have been purchased new in 1988, and may not have ever been fired.
Serial AYBxxxx and has magna stocks.
I shoot one of my 18-3.

Nice, I saw one on that gun auction site a couple months ago and was talking myself into bidding or actually hitting "buy it now". Then some body else beat me to it. Last week I redeemed myself by winning a 17-6 4" full lug barrel. Paid more than I wanted, but I wasn't letting this get away.

Very Nice 17-5 , thanks for sharing !
The 17-5 came into existence just after they discontinued the Model 18 line.
Apparently they still needed a 4" K22 so they started with a Model 17 frame then added a 4" barrel with a Baughman ramp.
They did the same thing back in the 60's with the Model 14-2.

Great- Just when I think I don't need another K-22 you show that one. Now for the sleepless nights, the endless internet searching, the dent to the bank account

Jim , Certainly "Need" is not the most accurate descriptive term as at this point its more of a lustful "Want" and "Desire".
They may not be as plentiful as the Model 18 but they are out there,
.....If all else fails one could always shorten a 6" 17-5 .

I will be patient, but I really like that "bull" barrel look on the 17-5. I have a full lug 4" 17-6 that is a great shooter. Just bought an 18-3 with box that was for sale locally and a 48-4 4" with both cylinders. Shot themn this weekend and guess what, they shoot great too.

17-5 or 6
You can also keep an eye open for a 17-6 same configuration. I know it never ends. Bob

Well I didn't have to wait long, found a very high condition 17-5 4" with box, tools and docs locally. Will post photos after purchase completed. Another dent in the old wallet.

Your Killin me !
I had to look for over a year and finally resort to using the Buy Now on GB and you stumble into one locally the next day?
Congrats !
PS, dont worry , that dent in the wallet is more of a bruise that heals back without a trace with a little time.

Engine-the s&w gods were looking over my shoulder on that one for sure. Gun was listed on GA but it turns out the seller lives about an hour from me.
