940-1 firing pin
In 1993 S&W came out with the 940-1 which changed the firing pin on the 940. Can someone tell me why they changed that part? There must have been an issue with the original firing pin.

Bump
I thought I would bump this because I had no action on the question originally. I am hoping one of the S&W experts here has the answer to my question. Thank you.

Description from SCSW 1st edition:
940-1 1994 Uncle Mike's boot grip, changed extractor.
From SCSW 3rd edition:
940-1 1993 New firing pin.
SCSW 1st was much closer in time to the event, which do you want to believe? The extractor change from "round" to "square" type is far more significant an engineering change, and more likely to be the cause for a model "dash" change. I tend to believe the 1st edition in this case.

Thanks for the bump to this old thread, 11B. I still can't figure out what changed with the firing pin though. I agree, Alk, that the extractor change would be significant, but I know S&W did have problems with the frame mounted pins on certain center fire models.

No problem
I was searching the site for 940 threads as I just picked up a -1 and was wondering about the engineering change too. The only visible difference I can see in mine is it has the cheesy MIM thumbpiece and a case hardened trigger. Interesting little gun.
