Default Model 37 parts compatibility with Model 36

I have a S&W Model 37 Airweight. Can anyone tell me which parts in the M-37 are the same as the M-36? My 37 was manufactured between 1979 - 1980. The serial number is J6959xx.

Thanks for your help.

John

I believe all parts from the trigger line, trigger, rebound sping and block, cylinder stop, and main spring are all the same for common frame sized revolvers. So any J frame model will have parts that can fit any model from the trigger line and down..all5x

Hola, kurios. Welcome to the Forum. Que' fue? The airweight 'blue' gun does not have a blued finish frame like the steel models, but an anodized 'aluminum black'. I don't know how far your finish is gone; 'blued' 37 models normally show finish wear/thinning on the frame edges and corners.

Birchwood Casey used to offer an 'aluminum black' touch-up solution in a 4oz bottle, don't know if that will suit your needs. The cylinder, crane, barrel are steel and regular bluing will work on them.

Hope this helps. Co'lo suave!

I don';t think anyone recommends removing the barrel from the frame so that the aluminum frame can be re-anodized, due to the possibility of the frame cracking when the barrel is reinstalled. The odds may be against t, but I wouldn't want to take that chance. Ditto for reblueing the barrel. All the easily removed parts can easily be reblued though.

The M37 barrel is stamped "airweight" but otherwise I would say the parts are all the same.

Resurrecting this thread from the depths.

Can a Model 37 3" barrel be installed on a Model 36?
Assuming the 37 barrel has already been removed.
Thanks!

Yes, with the possible exception of an Airweight stamping the 3” barrels on a model 36 and 37 should be exactly the same.

I have a 37 with a crack in the frame under the barrel. Is this fixable. I am assuming it is unsafe to shoot. The gun has never had +p or hand loads and probably not even 50 rounds through it. I think it was due to over torque at the factory.

It's not safe to shoot w/ a cracked frame, nor can it be repaired. There are a lot of valuable parts that can be used in other guns.

The short answer is: NO. Sorry.

Depending on the age of the revolver, contact S&W. They MIGHT give you credit towards the purchase of another handgun. And, they might not.

Thanks for the responses on the cracked frame. I will probably keep it around as a parts donor, if needed. I have heard that Smith will not return it if they don't cover it under warranty. I have asked them and they will not answer the question so I assume it is true.
