Cheap Duty Guns
Some one has a ton of Ohio Dept. of Corrections and similar used duty guns on gunsamerica.com. They seem like they might be a great buy, one of those deals you look back on later and wonder "why didn't I get one of those at that price?". Has anyone gotten one of these, any pitfall here?

They seem to be a good deal. J & G Sales in AZ also seem to have ones similar to these. Like many ex-LE guns, they were probably carried a lot and shot relatively little.

Robertson's Trading Post has 3913's and 6906's from Ohio DOC. They deal exclusively on GA. There's also LASD Model 67's, Model 64's and Swiss P228's.

I was considering a 64
A stainless S&W for under $300 in decent condition seems like a bargain. As Murphydog pointed out, they look like they have been knocked around a good bit, but maybe not shot much. I am hoping somebody in here has tried one of these from that vendor.
Thanks, Pete

I bought a 64-8 from them a couple of months ago. They advertised it as 85%, excellent condition. They were right. As near to NIB as you can get a used gun. Hardly see a turn ring, tight and accurate gun. Most of their guns go for $ 279.00, I went with the $ 339.00, plus $ 10 S&H to my dealer. These guns have some DOC marking (mine didn't) but that's about it. You can see a complete description of the gun and good pics. Both Guns America and the GB sites carry them. Good folks to deal with, you can see the exact gun you're buying and there's a 7 day return policy.

There was a dealer on GunBroker selling 64's for $220 or so.
I got a 64-8 and a 10-14 from him, excellent deals for shooter grade guns.
S&W made a ton of 64's and so holster buffed examples, many with numbers or CI marks EP's into the sideplate will never be "collectible". So buy 'em and shoot them as much as you can! They make great carry guns, range guns, etc.

When the sale originally came out at Vance's, the M10's were $249 and the M64's $279.
I bought a 64 and promptly swapped out the rubbers. A little holster wear, a few scratches, a really clean bore - as in "probably shot once a year to qualify" clean bore.
I save my pocket change and put it in a jar. For this sale I emptied the jar and rolled almost $300.
Hence her nickname: " Pocket Change".

That's got to be the best use of "pocket change" I have seem yet.
I think I am going to get me one of those 64s.

Grab one while you can!
Here's my $209 Ohio prison gun from SOSS off GB a couple months ago.
After the usual "fluff and buff" it's a really slick DA shooter:
50 rounds rapid fire DA @ the 10 yard line.
Got stupid on a few, as is my norm these days!

I bought one (64-8) recently and was completely satisfied. I've checked all the LGS within driving distance and cannot find anything comparable. I ordered another this AM and it was shipped this afternoon. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I suspect in the near future these used model 64's in excellent shape will be very hard to find.
