Default Adventure Outdoors Model 64 Police Trade Ins

I came across the web site for a store called Adventure Outdoors and they have Model 64's for sale for $249 that were police trade ins. Seems like a really good price but I never heard of the place before. Any info on that place or the guns that are selling ?

Legitimate large LGS in Atlanta with a LEO supply division, Smyrna Police Distributors (SPD), thus the LEO trade ins. The owner, Jay Wallace, got into it big time with Bloomberg a few years ago and it's done nothing to hurt his business. They moved into an old supermarket space at about 70,000 square feet just a couple of miles from Glock USA. I have bought a few guns at AO, but it's not everyone's, or maybe anyone's, favorite LGS. Their pricing on used guns is all over the place, but there are deals to be had if you know what you are doing.

Thanks. $249 for a good condition SW Model 64 seems to be pretty cheap compared to what other places are selling them for. Was wondering if there was a reason...

Seems like a good buy. If I didn't already have a police issued 64 in a rare configuration id probably be all over one!

I guess they are all 4" SBs?

A model 64 is one of the last surplus revolvers that we will likely see on the market. It is an excellent tool of excellent quality. As a K frame it is handy, relatively light and in the perfect shooter caliber .38 spec. I have owned 2", 3", 4" (thin and heavy barreled variants). They are all excellent and an addition that should be in every shooters collection. They are exactly like the ubiquitous model 10, only in stainless steel which in my opinion gives the 64 a slight advantage on the surplus market as they clean up really easy compared to carbon steel/bluing. $250 is a solid price for any 64 that is in decent condition. I bought my DAO variant about a year and a half ago for $200 and I felt like that was a screaming deal. I sold it this week from $335, only cause I have won two 3" variants!! While the heavy barreled 4" variant like the one you are considering is a solid shooter, my favorites are the pencil barreled early 64's and the 3" barreled. They have the best balance and feel to me, however they are rarely seen anywhere close to the price of $250 which is probably a testament that many other shooters/collectors agree with me! Good luck and thanks for sharing the link. I'm tempted on buying one myself (LOL), I could flip it in six months for a profit!

Nice website, lots of guns, but the photo of the model 64 is not to helpful. Might be a late model internal lock revolver, in which case I would pass.

I purchased one of these Model 64 4" barrel trade-ins. Cleaned up really well. Good shooter and tight. Scuffed up a bit, but appears to have been shot very little. Some etched #'s on the side-cover. AO is a big place with a spread-out inventory. Prices are mixed.

I've bought two 64's from this store. These are usually tagged at $350. Price is a **** shoot though. The tag will say $350 but when they scan at the cash register, it might be different. I got one for $238. Both have had some work done.

Thanks. So I guess it's a **** shoot as to what you might get. But I guess for $249 it is probably worth the gamble. I'm just surprised I never heard about this place before. What kind of work had been done to them ?

Top one just polished a converted from square to round butt grip frame.

The other was shortened to 3" barrel and brush finished.

By me....I'm a bubba !

Looks like some nice work "bubba"! I'm partial to the 3" 64's. I've got a second one on the way that I just won.

I can vouch for the quality of the Model 64s at Adventure Outdoors. There are a couple of hundred available and I’ve personally inspected all of them. PM me for more information.

I would love to have a 64 in any barrel length--4" for choice, I like the balance--but don't have funds at present. Checking account got hacked.

I'll keep an eye on the site, for sure.
