Default Laser grips the only choice? (N frame)

Hi friends, first-time poster here.

My question -- I'm looking at acquiring a 327 NightGuard (can't find a 327PD to save my life), and I really like the look of the Hogue wood grips (particularly I thought the 'lamo camo' would look great on that gun, but that's another story). However, I was also thinking that I'd like a laser on that rig. Are there any creative suggestions regarding a laser, outside of using a laser grip? I've certainly got nothing against grips like CTC's fine stuff, but I was searching for a certain aesthetic / feel that the standard grips don't have.

Anyway, I thought that while I'm caffeinating I'd throw the question out there. I wasn't seeing a lot online.

I'm just starting to get 'the bug' again after many years, and sharing it with my sons. My only revolver is the first gun I ever bought - a stainless 627 from '89 with unfluted cylinder, 5 1/2" bull barrel and round wood combat grips. Maybe 150 rounds through it. I guess it's gone up in value since the $300 I paid for it new, haha. Still one of the nicest single objects I've ever possessed. Hello, and thanks for your time!

Cheers,
Phil

Welcome to the forum, PhilV....

I have no suggestion for you other than to mention I recently placed Crimson Trace grips on one of my shooters. The grip model I chose is the 207 which can be used on any round or square butt K, L, N, or X frame gun. It is a very useful item for me because of its adaptability to all the frames I commonly use.

The 207 is now on a 5" 629-6 Classic and I also will be trying it with a 66-1 2 1/2" and a 6" SB Mod. 57.

The harder rubber of the 207 is still something that needs to be adjusted to especially when used with warmer loads in the big bore magnums.

I'm used to larger recoil reducing "500" grips on my shooters.... Crimson Trace does make grips for specific guns utilizing softer material but they are more expensive and for specific frame sizes.

So far I'm very pleased with the sights quality and usefulness. Hope you find some other options and opinions....

Thanks, TDC - like a lot of newbies I've lurked on here often and received some great information.

the gun I was really smitten with is the 327 PD - it just seemed like such a great all-around configuration, but I can't find one to save my life. The NG is nifty, but honestly I'm not completely sold on the idea of running .357 in a barrel that short. Maybe I should start a thread on that. :-) Seems to me that a gun like the 327 NG would be more balanced by running a high-grain 38.

What's your reasoning on needing a laser? They do help in dark areas, but your gun you are looking at has night sights, right? Laser's are iffy in sunlight. If you want one, by all means get one, just wondering if it is a specific need or maybe a perceived need that it may or may not fill.

Congrats on getting the 327, I'm sure you will love it.

Hola, States -

You're almost correct in your "perceived need" statement - I haven't purchased the 327 yet.

On another thread I mentioned my only revolver, which hasn't been out to play in 20 years and has less than 150 rounds through it (picture below). I started thinking about an 8 shot with a shorter barrel, simply as it sounded like something I'd like to own, shoot, carry, etc. The laser idea was really nothing more than me, sitting on my *** with a cup of coffee, wondering what else might be out there besides laser grips. I'd rather go with the nice wood grips I want, but the laser sounded like it'd be a helpful training aid to a) re-acquaint myself with regular shooting, and b) help my sons who've not done much in the way of firearms training.

You may want to check this out as well.

Laser Training System 9mm to 45 Cal Pistols Minimum 2 Barrel Red

The above is about 1/2 the price of CT's and you can use it with other guns to train as well. I like laser for low light situations, but to my mind it would be redundant with night sights, but what do I know? You can't go wrong with an 8 shot .357 for HD, winter carry etc in my mind.

Half the fun is the search for the perfect gun, enjoy it. Have a blessed day.
