Default My New (to me) 686 No Dash

After a couple bad experiences with the new stuff, I'm back to being a pre lock/pre MIM revolver snob. I will NEVER buy a new S&W again. To consummate my new vows, I picked this up for $600, came with box and papers. Did not come with the original grip, but I still think I did OK. Thing is beautiful. Smith really used to make these things like they were proud of them. Took it out and put 500 rounds of 357 with no issues. Thing is accurate. Does not have the M stamp, and I probably wont send it in, since it seems to work fine, and at this point, I would not let S&W put gas in my lawn mower, much less tinker with any more of my guns.

Beautiful M686! But I am wondering, will you buy any new Smiths in the future? lol Sorry you had trouble with the newer stuff. Glad you have one now that should be trouble free!

Default 686

Nice, I just brought one home today. The 686 seems to be a quality piece especially the older ones. When was yours made? Congrats on a nice example!

Mine too! ABS serial number and a stamp on inside of my original target grips that came with the gun show September 1983. Nice 686 you have there.
Here's mine.

You gotta love the 686s! I have two 4" "no dash" models. One is a LNIB safe queen. The other is a VERY NICE shooter. The very first handgun I ever purchased with my own money was a 4" 686 no dash. Unfortunately, shortly after buying it I fell on some hard times. I had to sell it. I swore I'd have another some day, never thought I'd have two.

I sorta have a 4" 686-1 Power Custom Combat with a Clark Moon Clip Conversion. The wife has had it taken over for her house gun for years. She lets me see it, and clean it once in a while.

You did very well. It looks new. It does need a set of Ahrends grips to finish it off. My choice would probably be Retro Combats in Moradillo.

Enjoy your find.

Bob

I picked up a 686 no dash recently. I just couldn't pass it up for the price.
