Great Looking Export Guns, Why Not in USA?
Been scanning the net over the last few months, have seen some nice looking S&W models that I wonder why were ever marketed here in the US. One is the Model 10, 3", with shrouded ejector rod, the other is the Model 19, 4" with fixed sights. Think both would be great sellers here, or am I wrong? I'd buy one of each!

My impression is the 3" shrouded model 10 and the 4" fixed sight model 19 were odd ducks in their time. It has only been in the last 7-10 years that there was any demand for 3" K frames (the FBI notwithstanding), and with 4" model 13s available I suspect the demand for 4" model 19s here would also have been low. Interesting guns now, however.

A 3" Model 10 or 13 is selling quite well at auction, as is their stainless counterpart. Shrouded rods would be a plus. As for 19's, I'd think of them of as a Ruger Service Six, but better

Big Bill, I hope not. Col. Charles Askins said the revolver would be gone by 2000. S&W is still producing new models, Colt SAA have a long wait time, Ruger continues production at an alarming rate, still introduces new revolvers that sell out. If this is an an indication of a dying mechanism, I don't see it. I have all kinds, i reload, and I still don't like stooping over to pick upmthat damned brass!

To answer your question because they were police contact models ordered with those features. No American PD ordered any so the only ones available are overseas returns.

The barrel/shroud. I prefer that look to the heavy barrel. I would buy a 19 with fixed sights in a heart beat if I had the $$ at the time. Just my personal preference though.
