My (new for me) 640 with early production-code
Hello to all
Because I found a very special, long forgotten handgun by a gundealer, I needed a buying-permission. And while a permission is good for three guns,
I looked a bit around to add a second gun. (a permission cost here in Switzerland more than US$ 70.--)
A buddy offered me this J-frame with box, all papers and a still unused cleaningset in the still closed plasticbag.
Here are some pictures of my newest purchase....
(...and yes I know. I had to clean it better... )
...and that baby shoots straight... . The model 640 was fired in free standing postition, holding the gun in both hands.
I will try other bullets for the long distance, but I am complete happy with this gun.
Thanks again to my buddy, who sold me this J-frame for a very good price.

Good looking 640! In my opinion, the Centennials have always been very easy to shoot, and, as you say, they do shoot very well. Of all the steel-frame Centennials, and of all the 640s, I think that particular version that you have is the best one. Nice gun!

Great gun, Swissman. I'm picking up one just like it tonight. I hope I can shoot it as well as you shoot yours.

I have one to.
GREAT! .... Carry Gun.
My go to gun for carry and nightstand use.
Nothing like a "J" Frame all Stainless Steel 2" Revolver.
Good luck with yours.

Howdy Swissman!
I haven't spoken with you in a while. Congrats on the 640. I have one, and it is my main carry gun in the summer. This will soon be a favorite for you. Good luck with it!
Excellent shooting BTW!

I know, that this thread is older than two weeks. But I am still happy with my buddy's 640. Yesterday evening was one of those days, where you can't loose.
The shootingrange was filled but no waiting time. The discussion with the members was fun. So it was the right situation to check my fast-firing-skills with
the little J-640. I loaded it with Dani's selfcasted 158-grain .357 SWC-bullets and 5.5 grains of Accurate #5. J-640 liked it very much.
Here a cellphone (sorry) picture: 5 shots including drawing, in ca. 8 seconds at 11 yards. Did I mentioned that I like this gun???

That is some good shooting, Swissman! Definitely a revolver that you will want to keep and pass down to your grandchildren.

Why not!!!
It looks like you are beginning to discover the beauty of proper l-e-a-d bullets for your S&W revolver shooting. That is a good target and - obviously - very good ammunition. Congratulations!
