I just got my two newest home, and my 66-4 3 inch is serial range CAU, product code 102715, Spec. Ord. 6069, finish S, stock SB, features MAG-NA-PORT. I don't understand the SB under stock, it is a round butt, but in SCSW it lists black blade front sight-1994 also for SB, but why under stock.
Here is a picture of them together, I will post better pics later when I have time.

So I drug it back out of the safe today (got all the Mothers' Day dishes done first...) and took a few pictures. Here is one of the front sight, which looks like it is indeed pinned!...
...however, in looking closely, I was reminded of a different discussion thread about the barrel-to-frame matchup of these guns. This one has a visible gap between the shroud and frame:
...it looks larger than it is (I can't get an .0015" feeler gauge in there anywhere) but I got to looking more closely at the gun --- man the barrel-to-frame fit is .. not nearly as neat as the fit on any of my other K-frame magnums.
Couple of other pics showing the fitment -- it's not something I'd ever really noticed before.

Another 66-4 3 Inch barrel
Thanks to a gentleman from this forum, I just got my second model 66 with a 3 inch barrel. This one has been fired, but in great shape - No box though, so what is the DOM for a CAA7XX S/N? Around 1994?

Mine is a 66-2. Serial # ANA75XX
This one is DAO with a Factory Bobbed Hammer.
I am sure the DAO Parts are Factory S&W. The parts are Forged. The Trigger is Smooth and app. 0.30 wide.
The Front Sight is a Pinned on Black Blade, .215 Tall at the back tallest point. The Sight Pin is bead blasted to match the side of the front sight ramp. If it has been changed, whoever did it went to a lot of trouble to make the pin look original.
The Back Sight has a solid Black Blade, Taller than my 2.5" 66 No Dash back sight, and does not have rounded corners like my 2.5" does. Again the screws are Cherry, and the Sight Adjustment Screw & Nut shows no sign of the Blade being changed out.
It appears to have a Trigger Job done on it.
It has had Ball Loc added. The Ball is 1/2 Football shape, and not the common round ball like Power Custom installs.
The back strap has also been checkered.
The Grips that were on it when I got it were antique Hogue Rubber Finger Groove. They have a hard plastic insert in the screw hole on the bottom of the grip for the screw to tighten against. The Stirup is made different also. Instead of the stirup holes going on the cross pin as current ones do. This one has the Stock Pin Removed, and the Stirup stradles the bottom of the grip frame. A cylinder shaped piece goes into the holes on the stirup, this cylinder shaped piece is threaded for the Screw.
I am guessing that this is a very early Hogue Rubber Grip.
The old 66 is clean as a pin, and shows no signs of being carried at all.
Bob

66-5 3"
Hello all. I apologize if I am posting to the wrong thread, but I am seeking information about my 66-5 3" barrel. I am thinking about selling the gun and I am looking for a value estimate.
I bought the gun in March 1999. It has never been fired. The details are as follows:
66-5
Model No.: 066
Caliber: .357
Barrel: 3
Fin.: S
Stock: RB
Features: RED RAMP SGT
Product Code: 102712
Serial No.: CDB3***
Spec. Ord.: 8348
I have the original box and all original paperwork, including receipt.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance...Dan

I recently found a K Comp 19. It is an early Lew Horton without the box. Although it is in excellent condition I don't know if I am going to keep it. I had an F comp and I sold it in a weak moment a few years ago. also had one of the Ashland 3 inch 66's and let it go about 10 years ago. I wish I had all the guns I have sold over the years.

Great thread. I came across it this morning while doing some research on my 3" that I'm considering offering up for a trade.
Mine is identical to the one in Post #12 - rubber grips, new-style cylinder latch, new style rear sight and pinned stainless red ramp front sight - new in box with papers and lock.
66-4 102712 CCN14XX 8040
I also have a 3.25" Hi-Viz.

I picked up a 3" 66-4 used about 5 years ago.....Serial # BRR____. If I carry a k frame it's the one.
I also have 2 66-3s I bought new when I lived in Harrisburg Pa. in IIRC 1988-89. I had a 3" 65 and I remember telling this gunsmith that I wish I could get a 3" 66 to have the full length ejector rod.
All now wear Spegel Boot grips.
This Smith ( who lived in Hershey) told me a "local" distributor (Harrisburg area) had some 3 inch 66s; they had been on the shelf for a while, and that he couldn't move them. (everyone wanted high cap 9mms). He said he could get me one for (approx.) $270. I was shocked when he called me a week later.....I went to see it expecting a 2.5 incher but lo-and-behold it was a 3 inch barrel. I asked if there were any more and he got me a second...... I was going to give it to my Dad.
But; about that time I got my first 6906, which became my carry gun; Dad some how got my 686/no dash (round butted) and my 3inch 65.
Both 66-3s guns got the actions polished..... one has maybe <100 rounds through it; the other, I don't recall ever firing it .....at most one (short) range session.
snw19_357:I will get the Serial numbers on the 66-3s later today or tomorrow.

Just checked the boxes..... both my 66-3s are BBNxxxx.
Special order # 8294
SCS&W; looks like July-Oct of 1988..... so I'm thinking I got them in the summer of 1989.

I looked for a three inch Model 66 for years to accompany my 2.5 and four inch guns. Then I found two in less than a week.
The top is a 66-2 and on the bottom, a 66-5. The dash 5 is a Lew Horton gun. (Apologize for the poor quality phone photo)

Mine differs from the ad as the stocks are wood. I seen another right after I bought mine with the same wood but that one also had a diamound ivory inlay.

Here's a picture of mine. It has been given a matte finish and fitted for moon clips.

I'm not sure how to read the serial..
It looks like it says B2. And then 38947.
It's a 3in 66-2

Anyone still here?
I inherited a 66-3 confirmed May 1988 (By S&W customer service) 3" barrel serial # BBT 57XX and I am wondering what the value may be in today's market?

Not a lot get sold or traded. Do you have the Box /Docs ? As new in box?
Best WAG without more info and pictures should bring $1,200-1,500
Two drinking bidders on a Sunday night ....... could bring $2500
Sell to a local gun shop.... $500

Thank you for the response!.. Regrettably, I never got the box. I do have the original docs and Warranty card. It's been in the family 21 years and I've maybe seen 100rds total go through it. Not sure about before but it's clean .. clean.
😂🤣 yeah, I'll probably avoid a local shop. But hopefully would like to see this go to a collector who will appreciate it. Anyone interested should contact me.

Thank you again! Hopefully, someone here will want it. If not I'll raffle it off locally.

As an update to my post above, ended up getting an extra cylinder that dropped right in... It then went to TK Custom and was rechambered to run .38 Super and 9mm via moon clips...and they both run just fine...
The Combat grips, that I found in a used bin for $5.00 but I never did care for, were sold off and a nice set of Ahrends smooth compact grips put on...
