629-6 PC Carry Comp
Hey all! Been a while since I’ve been here, but just wanted to check in and show what I believe to have been a once-in-a-long-time find. Picked this guy up used, great condition with a box of ammo and 4 speedloaders. If I’m not mistaken, there were only a tiny number of these ever made. Let me know if you know anything about this guy. Thanks!!

Looks like a neat find.
I have it's older, littler brother, the 1993 Model 60-7 ET Comp in .38 Special.
The book (Standard Catalog of S&W, 4th Ed.) says yours is a 2006 limited run for Lew Horton, but it doesn't say how many were produced. Product code is 170279. Cost new was $1,500.
Pretty sketchy. Hope it offers a wee bit more than you knew.

Congrats, nice find!
Sorry, don't know anything about it, but kick myself for not picking one up when they were available.

Thanks! I was at least able to find this from the code you provided. See a few different factory looking grips on recent sales. (They sell for over 2,000 these days it seems. I paid 1,100 ). I love the ones that came on mine but I wonder if they were aftermarket. The trigger is absolute butter. May be the smoothest lightest feeling DA I’ve ever pulled. Do you know if the PC models from that time period were this good or what are the chances it has had some work done? Thanks.

This prior listing sold a week ago says only 288 ever made. The shells from test fire at the factory in the box are dated 2009.

Nice grab!
The photo in the SCSW, 4th Ed., shows the same grips as on yours.
The ones in the info you found online appear to be the contemporary N-frame offerings. I just bought a 627 PC with a date code of February this year -- it has the grips in your ad.
I would be skeptical of anything a seller on GB claims. LOTS of fake news there.

Thanks Bob!
Maybe a dumb question, but what’s all the gunk in here? Looks like grease. Is that normal?

I have one of the first run, the 629-3 Carry Comps. I qualified with it and carried it for a time. I stopped when I saw one on gunbroker sell for $5300. I only fired 44 Special JHP's in it and found it easy to shoot. I like the fixed sight guns better than the target sights as there is less chance to hang up on something. That's why I also got the Camfour 629-5 and 629-6 with the 2.5 inch full underlug barrels.

It is a low production gun and very hard to find.
I did not want to carry it and it is not a range gun. In the end I sold it for way more than I paid.
It is a good S&W that I never found a use for.
I have a 4 inch 29-2 that I do use.

Thanks for the response! I shot it today and found it to be extremely pleasurable to shoot with special loads and while magnums were a handful, they were ok. I should be able to train well enough with them. It may have to do with these grips that came on my model. From my research they are Eagle Grips. They really fit your hand like a glove.

Very nice! Thanks for the photos. I love the gutter sights as well. They seem to be dead on for 44 spl.
