Default Ohio Dept. of Corrections

Bought this the other day from Robertsons Trading Post. Gun is in pretty good shape, but I like to tinker with them, so...I started taking it apart and found some slight pitting from the grips, never saw that before on stainless, so I kept going, spent some time on my buffer (a 6 inch grinder with a buffing wheel and stainless compound) and put her back together. New grips are Altamont black/ silver checkered, rd. butt with med. Forgot to mention that the gun is a police trade-in, hence the title.

That turned out excellent! Good job on the polishing wheel and the grips set it off nicely! Well done!

You got a box? I'm jealous--I bought a couple at Vances and all they gave me was a plastic bag to carry them home in.

Vances is in Columbus. A huge dealer who is Armorer to most of the LEO's in central Ohio.

Situated in an interesting part of town it's the only gun shop I've been in where I felt I needed to be carrying!

Excellent polishing job. I too bought one but it's become one of my favorite guns and I haven't been able to take it out of the range bag long enough to break it down and properly clean it.

Vance's is the premier gunshop in Columbus OH. While surrounded by Columbus it is actually located in Clinton Township which means Columbus permitting laws don't apply there. At one point you had to get a city permit to purchase any firearm from a city located store. As far as I know that is still in place.

Vance's actually started out as an IGA grocery store and Mr. Vance sold guns out of one little corner. I remember going in as a kid and they had a tommy gun of some sort on the wall. To me as a pre-teen that was just cooler than anything. I still have some no name .22 revolver that my grandmother bought from Vance's IGA.

As it pertains to this thread, Vance's had a few hundred (seemingly) of the Ohio Department of Corrections revolvers. I bought this 10 and a 64 from the batch.

ohiojerry, I grew up in Berea when it was a pretty sleepy small town. Did you reblue the 10? looks mighty clean for an old holster gun. I just went to the Robertson's sight and the 64's are selling out. I bought 3 others. Master of self-control.

Self control is over-rated! Actually that picture was taken with just a wipe down with a silicone gun cloth. I got a good one--the id number is on the bottom of the trigger guard, not on the side of the frame like most I saw. My 64 is in pretty good shape to.

Just an FYI.... Ohio passed a law a few years back that pre-empted all local gun laws. All laws that pertain to guns now in Ohio are the same statewide.
