Default RARE REVOLVER MAYBE-OPINIONS

I lucked into a Smith model 337 Airlite NIB for $400. Couldn't pass it up. Here is the kicker. I get it home, and I notice the frame says "Airlite Sc" NOT
Airlite Ti . Consider this gun is:
.38 special only, barrel is marked with no non jacketed +P 125 grain warnings;
is the no lock silver frame grey titanium cylinder model;
but instead of "Ti" its and "Sc."
I know the silver/grey Sc came out eventually but it was in the .357 variant.
Could this be a rare bird??

What is the 6 digit product code on the endlabel?

103052?
103053?

S&W wastes nothing. This may be one of the frames that was marked when they had the plans of calling the gun the SC as most of the silver Scandium guns have been named. Rather tha throw it away, they just built a gun from it.

Rare? Probably.

Extra value? To most buyers, No. But if you find the right collector, who knows

Default AIRLITE Sc

Colt thanks. I can't tell the product code because it came in the little grey padded box with the blue velvet like liner and the product code on those was on the outer cardboard sleeve I think, which i don't have.
I got kind of excited about this, not so much because the value may be more, but i am thinking this Scandium/Aluminum frame formula was designed to withstand the use of .357 and I have it surrounding a .38 platform. I am thinking it is one hell of a lightweight, durable .38 as a result.
I shoot all my guns alot, so that is appealing to me.
You think i am on base with this thinking??
Thanks

No matter the metal, if you shoot a caliber that is not etched on the barrel, S&W doesn't have to replace it sans cost if you ruin it.

You want a .357? Get a .357 that you know is a .357. Otherwise, simply enjoy a nice J-frame oddball CCW.

Seriously what is the point of this post without pictures? Nothing drives me crazier than these post without pictures that clearly need them.

Product code can be found out quite easily (hopefully )

Call S&W on 800-331-0852 (hope that number is right, been awhile since I've called them)

Anyway, once you get to the auto-attendant, select the customer service option (used to be option 6)

If you get connected to a real person, ask them to provide the product code associated with your revolver's serial number. That would go a long way of assisting on tracking down what you have, not 100% conclusive mind you, but it would help.

Regards,

Here is another thought. See of the top or bottom interior of that padded case will remove. Often, when an end label will not adhere to the packaging, S&W will place an unattached label inside the package.

I think mc5aw misunderstood your point.

If I get you, you are saying that since Scandium frames are built to handle 357 pressure and recoil that it should be a really durable frame when built as a 38 Special.

Yes, Mr. Colt, that was my misunderstanding. I initially thought the OP was considering putting a .357 into a mismarked .38.
