Default Would you pay $750 for this 3" 629? Pic

I am looking at the pictured gun (629-4)and the price is a firm 750 with the Galco leather. Nothing else.

Is this a steal, a fair price or overpriced? I know nothing about this model but it appeals to me for some reason. Thank you.

Also please confirm that this is a 3" and not a 2.5 as I don't yet have an "eye" for short barrels.

Maybe a touch on the high side, how bad do you want it?

I found a 6" Unfired with box for $725.00 at a Gunshop where many of my firearms came from.

Can you define "touch on the high side"?

I'm looking for the actual market value. I try not to factor "want" into price of the guns I buy. I am patient and look for fair deals but usually will not pay over what the market will bear in case my fortune changes.

I try to balance wise consumerism with getting what I like. If the two meet, I have a new gun. This practice has kept me from being accused of being a cheapskate lowballer and a foolish spender alike.

Thank you very much.

Thank you for the kind offer 6G but I already have a 6" 629.

I'm starting down the short barrel road now so the gun in the picture is the one I'm considering.

I understand.
I found more, but all 6" and one 8". None of them were more $ than the 629 you are loking at.

Sorry, I can't help further. Perhaps another member will know what a clean 629 3" brings for value.

Avery11 - I don't think you'll find another one any cheaper!
The dash four has the endurance features with none of the early 629 problems.
The holster is a bonus.

Thank you VM. WHat are endurance features? I suppose it has to do with allowing one to "wring it out" with a steady diet of full-house loads.

I don't agree with a couple of these posts. I'm not sure where you'd find a 3 inch 629 for 6-675, unless you have a time machine. 3" 629's are going for 7-$800, take a look at Gunbroker etc. I just bought a Lew Horton 3" 629 that started at $850 and I got them down to $750 on it, which was $25 less than they sell for on GB.

Avery11, I'd say the price is about right with the holster, maybe $25 high. Mine was new and had the S&W fish scale grips on it. I have the same Galco holster for it, cost me $60. There is one exactly like mine on GB tight now for $778. You will want rubber grips IMO if your hands are anything above small sized, the factory stocks jam your knuckle under the trigger guard and 3" has some recoil. Maybe you can print off the GB price with the stocks and get a small drop, if not it's not a terrible price. The grips are close to $100 if you bought them from Smith, the rubber ones are around $35.

You will love the gun, it shoots like a dream and is heavy but carry-able. I sent mine off and had the trigger rounded and polished, it was sharp on the edges and a trigger job. The trigger was not bad before, but the trigger job makes follow-up a little quicker and more accurate for me anyway.

Bud's has NEW PC 629 for $832. That at least tells you what a new version goes for. Gun it the pix looks a little rough for top $ Maybe it is the picture. How does it do in the "tests"?

I don't know where you guys are shopping, but I think the price is about right, especially for a shop. As stated, watch Gunbroker and the classified section of this website. I don't think you'll find one much cheaper. Lew Horton for $750? I'll take a couple. The 3" version of ANY N frame is real popular now. I know I paid a lot more than that for my 3" in .45ACP... H

StatesRightist,

I have run into alot of your posts lately and I chuckle when I read them because I think if we met we'd be best friends or worst enemies - no in between.

Thats a compliment, Sir. I'm a very deliberate man and you strike me as one too - all or nothing. When you take the time to type, you don't B.S. or beat around the bush.

I call it like I see it and I appreciate (for better or worse) when others do the same.

No offense meant but when people respond with "well, how bad do you want it?" it doesn't do anything toanswer the question.

I think some people are afraid to make a statement and stand behind it because it may not be popular or they may have to eat it and learn something.

Anyway, I appreciate the candid and direct remarks you add to the forum.

There are many like that here - I'm just calling you out tonight.

Keep the opinions coming guys. I am reading them all. If my mind was already made up, I wouldn't waste your time.

This will be a shipping deal so no chance to inspect it but I'm not worried about that part - I can fix most minor things nd if not - it's my fault anyway and I accept the risk.

Hello
On this model, I have noticed several sell. They go in the 700.00 to 950.00 range. I know that is a large gap, but that is what I have noticed.
The 3 inch version is in very high demand. Most do not want to depart with them once they own one.
The dash 4 version, is probably one of the most sought after versions.
As far as my opinion of the 3 inch version, I believe that length barrel to be the best all around length for a revolver.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

I paid $750 for the "Backpacker" version of this. It had the original box, tools, paperwork, etc. Also, this was in California.

Im my neck of the woods, that's a 750 revo all day long. Not a steal but you wouldn't be getting raked either. Holster to me is worth about 30 and adds little value.

I was tossing around the idea of buying either a 3" 629 or a 629 MG a few months back. A short barreled N frame looks all business to me. If I recall, $750 seemed to be in line with the market rate. I don't think it is a steal, but I don't think you are "buying too early" either.

Avery11, that's a very fair price and I wouldn't hesitate buying it. The 3" verions are very desirable and the hardest barrel length to find.

Default 629 with 3" barrel

The selling point is the 3" barrel. I would buy it. That's my 2 cents.

Its a fair but not great price, check it for timing and end shake first, if it locks up tight and has no endshake its a decent deal.

I think it's a very fair price for an great revolver. They are very good shooters and quite accurate. Not much fun with real stout loads but 8.5 grains of Unique and a 240 gr SWC is enough for most anything. They carry very well too and make great fishing/outdoor companions.
