Default No-lock M66 question(s)

Looking at a no-lock M66 (pics only right now).

Appears to have the new frame by the cylinder stop, so does that mean the hammer/trigger are MIM ? Can't see a firing pin on the hammer, but the pictures are not very big.

Not sure how I feel about MIM for the hammer and trigger. Not trying to start a fight, but wanting to hear some opinions. Feel free to pm me if you don't want to post on the board.

Also, don't know the series (66- what ?) right now.

Thanks.

Yes.

They went to new trigger / frame / barrel in 1998 (66-5) and IL in 2002 (66-6) shortly before they discontinued it in 2005. Last revision is the 66-6.

I am sure it will either be re-released as a normal product or as one of the "classics" at some point. Hopefully without the stupid IL.

If its no lock, sounds like a 66-5. Can you tell from the pics if it is rollmarked or laser etched markings on the frame and barrel?

If is a 66-5 it is probably MIM trigger and hammer with frame mounted firing pin. 4 inch barrel? If so, that would bring around $450 locally.

I prefer hammer mounted firing pins and forged parts. I had a 4 inch 66-5 at one time and it was a good revolver. Mine was early production with rollmarks. IIRC I had $325 in it when I traded it for another revolver. Hope this helps. Regards 18DAI

If you like the 66, then buy it. 66's are fairly unique - because they have the partial-lug barrel, kind of like a mountain gun. They don't make them anymore. They're SS with Adjustable sights. Don't worry about the MIM parts, IL, etc. If you like it and it's a square deal, then buy it.
