Default Anyone have a PC 627 with these grips??

Sorry, I don't post here often but I was thinking of buying some new grips for my new gun but don't want to waste $50 if I hate the way they look.

I have a 627-5 Performance Center gun with the 5" barrel. I think from the little amount of research I did that this is an N frame with a round butt?

Here is a photo of the gun I have, not my photo but it's identical.

And here are the grips I am curious about. They are $50 at Midway and look smaller than what's on there. I want to ditch the Hogues and get some wood but unfortunately Target grips won't work as I don't have a square butt. So does anyone have a gun like mine and these grips??

Also, would the grips hide or cover part of the Performance Center engraving on the frame?

Ian, if you want the square butt feel and look, buy a set of round to square butt conversion grips. They transform a round butt into a square butt, and many companies make them. S&W also offers them

Product: Fancy Walnut Grip With Checkering For N Frame Round-Square Conversion

They can also be found at Midways, Brownells, etc

Oh, I misunderstood... So those grips ARE the conversion? I don't need to buy anything else? Awesome, I would much prefer Targets to anything else.

Yes, those ARE the round to square butt grips. Ahrends and Altamont make them as well. Those particular ones may be Altamonts.

The grips on my pair of PC 627 UDRs below are 'PC Shop Walnut' and ~$50 - I cannot find the SKU now, but they are not on the S&W Accessories site - you'll have to get an ambitious S&W Customer Service guy/gal at their 800 number to get the SKU for you. Great handfit!

I think that you'll find those little ones with the diamond too small.(and they won't cover the PC stamp).
If you don't mind spending a few bucks on that fine PC gun,I just bought a set of checkered, closed back grips from Nill for one of my K frames, which are unbeatable.I'm sure that they make them for a N frame as well, and you can use the same grip on a RB and a SB.

I've back-ordered them before - and thanks for the help with the SKU #, 460V & XVR Magnum Man. They'll be in-stock before you know it. The small grips you displayed in your OP are actually N-frame boot grips - and they just cover the metal RB frame, leaving the back, bottom, & front straps exposed - too tiny. My Heritage 6.5" 24 had them - cute, but uncomfortable. The grips I have now on my UDRs, like the 60 Pro grips for the RB J-frames, are a deal - well worth the wait. They will be back in-stock - probably soon, too.

Of course, if you can't wait - Ahrends square conversion or retro target grips are nice, too - and really fit the hand quite well. They just look, scale-wise, a bit big for the N-frame snubbie:

Those grips are $60 in cocobolo + s/h from Kim Ahrends and may be in-stock at Brownells for the same price.

Actually.... those small grips aren't boot grips per se, those are the style known as "service grips" and are the original style used on S&W's revolvers until replaced by the Magna style grips, which are larger but still do not extend past the front, rear and bottom of the grip frame .

Then in the late 50's, the larger target style grips made their appearance as an available option, and were standard on the .44 Magnum (pre M29).

If you like the feel of those Hogues, they do make some nice looking wood equivalents.

Simply, wow. Those Nill grips are just perfect. Look at the way they fit, and they're perfectly balanced for the length and mass of that model gun.

I recently started a thread here asking about just that kind of thing - Nill grips on Smith revolvers. Great stuff!

I hope I am not hijacking this thread, but I would like to know if those Nills grips on the 627 are open or closed back; and why you chose the one over the other? I have a 627, medium sized hands, and an itch to suit up my UDR in a set of fine new cloths.

Ladder13,

Went with your suggestion, so glad I did. Wish my pics did them justice, they look awesome.
