A model 651-1 and a widow.
It could be a long story but I'll make it short.
Today at the gun and pawn shop I was running the store.
The owner had a few things to do and I stepped in for the afternoon.
A lady called on the phone and stated she had a gun and could I look at it.
Her husband had died 3 years ago and now she had to sell his gun.
It is a Smith and Wesson 22 she said.
I told her come on in and I would look at it.
Before I knew it there she was, with her 5 year old in tow and a small
blue plastic S&W box.
It was a model 651-1 ,, the 2 in. RSR special from 1999.
A quick Gun Broker search showed 1 selling for $800. in the past 90 days.
But that was new in box.
Working for someone else I have to be frugal with the money
and offer what I think is fair.
I mean , if this was a model 63 2" I would think big bucks.
But it is a 22 Magnum and I just don't know.
I tell her I will give her $500. , which is more than I know the owner would
WANT to pay but here is a widow with a kid and I feel for her losing her man and all like she did.
I also told her that selling the gun privately would bring her the most money
she could expect to get anywhere.
So she calls her friend who was her husbands best friend and speaks to him
a minute. And it turns out he would love to have his best friends gun and will give her a good
price for it.
After all , it was the best friend that was there with him when he flipped his
4 runner on its back with no helmet on and broke his neck that day
3 years ago.
So I send the lady on her way and wish her well. And if there is anything
else I can do ........
Allen Frame

Good! One of the hardest things one ever does is act with integrity. Some would have just bought the gun and then cackled about the deal. You did what was right. I applaud you.
