Default New Purchase! 29-4 5" Un-fluted (Update, New Photos!)

Had the high bid on Gun Broker and it is en-route. This piqued my interest and wanted a 44 Mag "shooter" for some of my heavier hand loads that I don't want to run through my 29-2 4". This is supposed to be a limited run and I know I have never seen one before. I am curious to know if it has the endurance package. Anyone here have any experience with one?

(Update)
Just picked this up from my FFL, and all I can say is 'WOW'! It is in excellent condition and quite stunning in it's all black livery. It has a sinister look, especially loaded up with some of my own 240 grain Gold Dots with 20 grains of 2400 behind em'. I cannot wait to shoot it!

yes it has the endurance package.
and it's a good one...your 29-5 was made in a limited run for Hill country distributors back in 1989 and it's one of 500 made for that run

I have had a couple of that model in different barrel lengths with the ordinary, fluted cylinders. I am not a big fan of the Python-type barrel on S&Ws but I have to admit I really like those guns. Mine have been excellent overall and all of those I have seen have been very nicely finished. I think you will be very happy with that one.

That's a nice looking package. I have it's little brother with the 3 inch barrel. They are nice models.

It was listed as a 29-4 which I thought S&W only made for a few years. Is that correct?

I have three 29-5's and the serials start with BP BN and BK so yours starting with BB could be a 29-4.

I really like mine, two are 5" and have become my favorite to shoot without question.

I'll watch for more pictures once your 29 arrives.....

If it is a Hill Country gun it is probably a -4 like the OP said and should have all the endurance features. Right about then the long notches were being introduced and it got really hard to keep track of what versions had all the features, but if the gun has the long notches, it should have the full-Monty endurance package, not just a partial - at least to my way of thinking.

The -4 ECO guns were made in a lot of different configurations, including with the standard barrel and without the long notches in the cylinder.

I'll be nice to it, I tend to be with all my Smiths. I only run stout loads through my Ruger Super Blackhawk.

I had a PC 629 V-Comp that I sold because of the lock. I purchased this one because of the case colored hammer/trigger, no lock, and with the firing pin located where it should be. I vowed I would never own another Smith that was not P and R'ed and have 4 Model 27-2s and a 29-2, but I am definitely liking some of these later 1980s revolvers!

Very nice, the unfluted cylinder adds a interesting look. It appears that yours has a pinned in front sight and not the interchangeable sight offered on the Classics???

That is one of THE most gorgeous revolvers my eyes have ever seen.... Not everyone has the same preferences and taste, but to me that is such a sweet lookin' .44! I love unfluted cylinders, full-lugs, and bluing (of course).

If I were to somehow find one of these ltd 29-4s on the market, can anyone give me a ballpark estimate of what I'd be looking at for fair price? $1000? more? If it weren't for this forum, I'd have more money and less guns.... not complaining! I <3 S&Ws

Edit- PS: James, are you going to get that baby some nice wood presentation grips?

I have some wood I could put on it, but I like the fact that the original grips really feel nice in the hand. To my eye they work on this revolver, but not on older models. I guess I am a fan of original equipment. I consider myself lucky to have paid $750 after shipping and a transfer fee, as it it close to new condition.
