Default 41 mag No one can have just one!

Groo here
Well I got another 41 ,, a 657 3 inch..
First it got a set of Packs and went to the range..
After , it went to my local DA revolver smith for work...
After a new hand and cylinder lock { both over sized }
a shim and action work,,, It handles and shoots as it should...
Now I hate to get it dirty carrying it..

There isn't a thing wrong with having more than one 57, I have three and wouldn't hesitate to buy another if the right one came along.

You either love them, or can't give them away. I had a nice 57 4" pinned and recessed no dash. Never shot it, because I was set up to hand load 44 and 357 mag and did not want to invest in dies and brass. For every 50 people looking for a magnum, you will have 1 that wants a 41....

Default Wanna buy a duck?

57's/657's definitely catch my attention. Lots of fun to shoot.

Kevin:

I am reporting you for shooting the duck "out of season" with your .41 magnum.

Good shot though!

Love the .41!

I bought a M57, 4" nickel. It seemed lonely, so I now have the M57 and a M58, nickel. Can't let your Smiths be lonely.

Currently have 4 ea .41s, M58 4", Ruger Blackhawk 6.5", TC Contender 14" and a Marlin 1894S 20". Sold all .44 mags and hardly shoot the .357s anymore too. I stick with the .41 for some strange reason.

Everything I've ever read about the .41 mag has been positive, whether
it's been here on the forum, or elsewhere.

Having never even fired a .41 mag before I get the idea that I'm
missing out on something special. Something very special.

Every time I think about looking into getting one I always remember
how many different calibers I have to keep stocked up on now and don't really
want to add yet another. I think that might change in the not too distant future.

sometimes I feel like holding a cardboard sign up around here that reads something to the effect of "spare a .41 smith?"

thems is beautiful, I'll get a 57 or 58 someday. Actually really want to reload for one...

I did not post a pic of my two .41 mags in my earlier post. I did not have time. But, never pass up a chance to show them.

M58, shipped in 1973

I had two, and let them both get away back in the early 90's. Twenty years is a long time to stay mad at yourself.........but I still am!

That's a lot of iron to haul around, unless you mean out in the field - with a really sturdy belt!

I have had that problem many times over the years. Those guns always end up in the safe, with infrequent trips to the range in the safety of a gun rug. Kind of love 'em and hate 'em for that.

Congratulations on your new revolver.

I just picked up a 657-4 LN for $450. S/N CDL02XX.
Appears to have been shot once. Beautiful gun, not a scratch or mark on it. Rubber Hogue grips, 6" barrel. Did I get a fair deal? I think it was made around 2001 but I can't find the S/N in the book. Now to the range for testing.

I.ve got two 41's a 657 and a 58, I reloaded some ammo this winter and tried the 657 out the bathroom window. Very impressive revolver. Still haven't shot the 58 but its in the range line-up. Love the shorty's.

Was that from a sitting position? Think I may have heard it.

You got it at wholsale! From its box end label I know another 657-4, serial CCWxxxx was boxed in 1998, so I don't think your's would be as new as 2001.

I had a well worn M58 back in the early 90's and traded it for something. It was a great shooter and recoil was a bit lighter than my 29-2 with 6.5" barrel. I wound up with much regret for having traded it. I never saw another until I found one a couple months ago in a LGS. It is in new condition with box, papers, tools and original purchase receipt from 1971. It was $600. Now, the only problem is shooting it since I don't have reloading setup for my RL550 and I don't know that I want to spend the $ for only one revolver...I guess I'll just have to find another .41!

That sounds like a pretty good deal for a 58 with box and such. They aren't too common, either! Id jump all over that one!

Little old for this forum, but I do like my no-dash 57 and no-dash 58. Great old guns.

Just bought up my first 57 off gb. $585 otd. I shot my friend's and fell in love with the caliber. I bought a set of hogue finger groove to replace the rubber pacs. Picking it up today, off to the range on the weekend.

Hey all, hi from Wyoming. This is my first post and new to S& forum.
I just received my first M657 Proformance Center from a friend of mine a few months ago.
He is 90 now and can not hold steady so he gave it to me. I will treasure this gun.
Last summer we mounted a 2x weaver scope but since I mounted a 4x Leupold on it for hunting all the critters we have here in the mountains and plains.

Well I picked up the 57 I bought off GB from a local guy last night (We exchanged ftf so no transfer/shipping YEA!) And I shot it today. Its had custom work in the distant past, has a 5" BBL, Weigand front sight, probably the nicest trigger and action of my 6 smiths, the refinish especially on the Cylinder doesnt quite match, but oh my does she shoot!! I think a place called Trappers gun works did the work, its stamped Trappers custom on the side and I will get more info/ pics soon and I need to get set up to reload for ..41 mag, what a great caliber!

I'm down to three .41s right now and all in nickel. A 4" & 6" Model 57 and a Model 58. Looking to build up the pile this year.

I have a Ruger 41 Magnum 3-screw flat top with a 6.5" barrel that my Mom bought my Dad in 1974 (I think)...I was there when she bought it. My Dad fired a cylinder of factory ammo through it and he never shot it again after that. I've related this elsewhere on the board, but it fits well here. He used to take the revolver out of the box and orange wrapping paper, which I still have, and he would point it out toward the back yard and at the river. He never dry-fired it. He'd hold it, appreciating the heft of the revolver, then he'd wipe it down with his silicone cloth and put it back in the paper then close the box. It looks as good today as when he opened it on his birthday in 1974. It was his favorite gun. I can pull it out of the safe and do the same thing and feel my Dad near again. He's in an Alzheimer's ward now; a mere shadow of his former self. He called my brother and I when he knew he was getting bad and gave us his gun collection. Alzheimer's is a horrid affliction; you lose a loved one twice. But, I'll always have the Ruger 41 magnum, and the 41 magnum is my favorite handgun round. There's a guy on here who has a two-tone blued heavy-barreled Model 58 for sale. I'm gonna find SOME way to pay for that gun.

.41s are an acquired taste. At one high point in my collecting, I had 42 or 43 of them along with sundry .41 caliber wildcats. I've been paring down the collection as Iapproach my dotage. Never did get ahold of a Texas Longhorn or 657 Magnum Hunter. I'll probably just keep a few customs and my FAs both 97s and 83s(forget the exact nomenclature), a few Rugers, and my Marlin 1894 SS LTD .41Magnum. Then again, I may just go for the rarer ones!

Whew, and I thought I had a rare disease. The 4" Model 57 was the first, then a 6" p&r'd 57, then a Dan Wesson 6". Luckily, I don't think I'll find an affordable 3" 657, but they sure are pretty.
