Cool S&W Wood Grips 686-6

Just got these wood grips in today from Smith & Wesson website in the mail today, are they suppose to fit like this in the back with that space? Just curious.

Your gun has a round butt frame. The stocks are for a square butt frame.
You will need either "conversion" stocks to make it a square butt (w/o the gap) or true round butt ones.
If you cannot return the stocks, just sell 'em on the parts and accessories for sale forum.

Those are square butt stocks. Your gun is a round butt. You need either round butt stocks or round-to-square conversion stocks.

Unfortunate that you got the wrong grips but they sure do look nice.

If I were to change them out to the round butt, they would not look as square like these, it would come in cause of the butt right? Could I still keep these with out hurting anything?

I doubt those would be comfortable to shoot with like that, not to mention it looks bad. You should exchange them for round-to-square conversion grips if you want a square stock.

You'll have to send them back for a refund because at this time S&W doesn't offer a round to square conversion grip for the K/L frame .

S&W never made round butt grips in the shape of a square butt target style. There are rubber ones by hogue and pachmayr that do that, maybe some aftermarket wood ones too, but not from S&W which is unfortunate.

Round butt on a big N frame is awful and serves no purpose. No one is trying to conceal a big N frame.

Nice grips...bummer you have to send them back. I put my order in for the round butt and it took two weeks before they shipped. S&W said they had just finished doing inventory and they were behind in shipping orders out. But once they did I had them in two days from Mass.

Looks much better,
One other option if u have the tools and a small piece of wood you can make a wood filler plug to fill the hole then paint or stain it to match the frame of grips.
Im pretty sure a member here makes them and has a few for sale.

If I not mistaken I believe the grips you bought from Engineered Accessories were made by Altamont grips.I think they are the company thats making grips from S&W now.

Appears so. I think it's pretty weak that they charge $15 to put the medalions in them.

Not to be contrary but I like the round butt on my M21-4 a lot. I have a nice set of factory RB grips on it and it hides very well in the winter. Not so much in the summer.

I think you're a far better man than I......

I would have kept the first set of grips then used having them
around to justify buying a gun with a square butt frame.

Seriously, your new grips look great!!
