627 Front Sight
How do you get the front sight out of the 627-5 Pro. I can push it back and it stars to lift out but cant get it all the way out. And what would be the correct height for a gold bead replacement? Thanks

Hey If I remember correctlly the front sight on the 627 has a pin holding it in. Then Unload the gun and look at the front of the gun above the barrel crown you will see a hole with a peice of metal in it. I do not remember how I changed the front sight on my 627 but you had to do something with the metal peice in the front of the gun...Sorry...As far as the height it should be a standard .250 ramp sight

What you have is the DX interchangeable sight. The base is a reverse dovetail so that it's retained by spring pressure holding the front dovetail under a pin.
Removal is pretty simple, you push the sight towards the rear of the gun and lift the front up and out first. Then you can pull the rear dovetail free from the nest.
Now, the first time ot two it can take a surprizing amount of force to get that front dovetail to clear the retaining pin. If you find that you can get the front to "almost" pop free the answer is to push the sight to the rear a bit harder and make sure you aren't trying to tip the fornt up too soon, otherwise you can cause that rear dovetail to lock everything up.
Tip. Some sight bases seem to be a bit too long and require a lot more effort than I feel should be needed. When I find a sight that is difficult to remove I've found that trimming 0.005 to 0.007 inch from the point of the forward dovetail can make these sights easy to change. So, if you find your current sight a real pain to remove a light dusting with a file can provide a big improvement.
As for the correct sight height for a new sight I've found that a 0.250 inch height is standard on every model I've looked at. Personally I suspect that the 0.300 inch sights are mainly for the 460 and 500 Magnums shooting heavy bullet loads. Bottomline while it's a bit of a guess I feel that a 0.250 inch sight will be what you need for your 627 Pro. BTW, my 625 JM came with a 0.250 height gold bead and IMO it's the best all around sight you can find for our revolvers.

Thanks for the help. Finally got it to come out by pushing straight back real hard before I lifted it out as suggested. It is now easier to get it in out out as well. Now I need to order up my gold bead.
Thanks a lot

My 627PC and 327PC both use 0.250" high front sights.
