586 l comp NEW with flaws
Hi,
I am fairly new to this forum & also to collecting guns (have only purchased a few). I just purchased a 586 l comp off gunbroker for $1300. It is a beautiful gun & I had been wanting one of these for a long time. When I received the gun I noticed a flaw on the right side of the trijicon night site (looks like what I would describe as a scrape at the very edge, like it had been been dropped) My wife didn't even notice it but she wasn't looking for flaws as I was. There are also a couple of TINY pinhole size marks through the black finish in other areas on the gun, probably not noticeable to someone not looking for it. Other than that the gun is beautiful, supposed to be brand new. Am I being overly picky for this to bother me? I don't think it would if I had been responsible for the flaws. I feel like paying that price for a handgun should mean receiving a product that is free of even very minor flaws but maybe my expectations are too great. I contacted S&W through email and they said to send it in for inspection but I am uncertain of what they will actually do for me and if I do that I wont get the gun back for 3-4 weeks. If I knew they would send it back with all fixed I might be open to it but I have never had to send anything back so I dont know how good they are about taking care of that stuff. Would this bother other people or am I being picky about this situation. Any opinions are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks!

Picky is like beauty it's all in the eye of the beholder. I have the feeling that right now you are are not happy with your new revolver and may never be totally pleased with it. You spent a lot of your hard earned $$ for it, so do what ever makes you happy.

It sounds as if the gun was mis-represented by the seller. As a very experienced buyer and seller of used guns off of various auction and sale sights, I would be returning the gun to the seller for a full refund. You should also report the seller to gunbroker if you get no satisfaction. If the gun was "brand new" it would not have the problems you describe. Brand new doesn't necessarily mean perfect, but your expectations for your purposes were not unrealistic. Good luck.

I've gotten new guns with nicks and blemishes before, one was a Springfield 1911 which I sent back and they made right (actually better than right, but that's another story). If it bothers you enough send it back to S&W with a list of concerns, they're customer service dept is excellent and usually quite prompt. If it is to be a shooter I, personally, might not worry about it, if you're just going to put it away in a safe as a collectible it might be more of an issue.
Is this a first generation L Comp or the second generation with the lock? The price you paid sounds steep, especially for a second generation gun.
