Although these front sights can be fitted to most any of vintage of S&W's guns that have pinned fronts, those from the factory with them already installed seem to mostly come from this era (post-1980) so I'm asking my questions here.

How many of you who have owned revolvers with these front sights liked them, kept them or went on to install them on other guns? Also, I know what they look like in bright sunlight but haven't fired a gun with them on on a clouded day. What do you think of them when the sun isn't out and shining down on you and your revolver?

Asking all this because I just hate the standard red ramp front sight and I'm looking for the best replacement. As they say about the tabloids, enquiring minds want to know!

Good grief! No one has one of the Smith revolvers with the HIVIZ front sight? That really surprises me.

I bought a M-317 with a green hi-vis and I like it alot but I changed out the rear v-notch for a white outline square notch . I also mounted one on my 617 but in red . They are good for fast sight aquisition and I like them better because I can see them better then the red ramp . I prefer the green which is what I put on my M-629 . Color is a personal preference and if you can find someone at the range that has one to try ,it would better so you can see if you like them .

I used one for a while when competition shooting. The fiber optic concept is very good and I was generally satisfied with it. My biggest gripe was the round top which made holding for elevation difficult at longer ranges. For the longest time they didn't offer them with squared off tops for S&W revolvers, or they were made for only certain models. Also, there is a small hole on top which seems to suck in dirty solvent, which then compromises the brightness. I don't know if it really needs to be open or is just a part of the manufacturing process, but I'd close it with super glue if I ever bought another one.

I'm still trying to figure what you mean by "Overmoulded sights" ?

That's the name HIVIZ uses to describe them in the Brownells catalog. They enclose the fiber optic tube in clear polymer, supposedly to protect it. If you don't like the name tell HIVIZ, not me.

My 325PD has the encased HiViz sight. I don't really care for it. Outside, sunny or cloudy it's fine. Indoors it just disapears for my old eyes. I'd much prefer a black serated Patridge or ramp.
