625-6 5" Info & Value
What would an excellent condition (95-97%) 625-6 5" with original box that only has about 1/2 box of ammo through it be worth?
Did the 625 also receive the endurance package, or was that specific to the 629?
Thanks!

I'd say anywhere from $750 to $850. There seems to be a very strong forum following here; like guns on the various auction sites seem to be considerably higher.... IF the gun sells! Sounds like you may have found a good one to chase. My 625-2 5" bbl is probably in my top three most accurate revolvers... git er done!
Blessings,
Hog

Thanks 'OK'...sounds like most of the people that have one really like 'em. I've grown fond of the 5" barrels lately!

Did the 625 ever receive the endurance package, or was that only for the 629?

Without giving you up, I think I know the gun you're talking about. It's a decent deal but I passed.
5" guns are nice looking and good for range masters and bowling pin but I think IDPA or one of the other popular disciplines limits revolvers to 4" bbls.
Check sold guns on GB. It is priced at market value.

Do the earlier 625's (625-2, 625-3) have any advantages over the later ones (625-6, etc.) besides the usual not having the MIM parts, hammer mounted firing pin? Do the later ones have any advantages over the earlier ones?

The later guns have the advantage of MIM components and frame mounted firing pins.
MIM parts are so consistent for size that it's rare to have to do any fitting with MIM parts. In addition I've found that MIM parts "wear in" together to produce a very smooth interface, so I don't bother with stoning the DA sear on my triggers because simply shooting the gun will produce a superbly smooth shooting gun.
As for the frame mounted firing pin, this feature allows you to choose between 0.480, 0.495, 0.500, and 0.510 length firing pins. This means that you can choose a firing pin that is suitable for what you are doing with the tuning of the lockwork. You won't be able to do that with a hammer mounted firing pin.
BTW, put 150 rounds downrange with my 625 JM yesterday and can second that note about them being tackdrivers. Finished up at 50 feet doing my take on shooting bullseye and was very pleased with the results.
However, I would nominate a new name for the 625. IMO the Name for the model 625 should be the Schizophrenic, because I cannot think of any other model that is constantly being offered in two distinctly different chamberings.

Thanks scooter. I'm with you on the MIM parts & & frame mounted firing pin...about 5 years ago I bought a NIB 686-5 4" and absolutely love it and have a LNIB 686-5 5" Dealer Stocking model on it's way (I'll make sure to post pics when received ; ), so I won't hesitate to buy a 625-6, -7 with the MIM parts.

Endurance Package on 625?
Anyone know if the 625 model received an Endurance Package like the 629 did?

As far as the endurance package is concerned, I believe that was just for the .44 Mags. The 45acp round doesn't generate nearly as much pressure and recoil as the 44, so I've never heard it advertised as having an the endurance package. That doesn't mean that S&W didn't put the endurance package enhancements in all of the N-frames after the 629-3 (I think), but even without the endurance package you should have a lifetime of 45 shooting.

Yes the 625-3 had longer cylinder stop notches. And call me old school but I prefer forged parts and hammer mounted firing pins to cast.
