3" Model 65 at SOSS for $339...
It would appear that SOSS is selling 3" 65's for $339.
I just thought some of you would want to know.
USED GUNS SMITH AND WESSON MODEL 65 357MAG TRADES @ Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore:
Full disclosure: I have no affiliation at all with SOSS.

The one in the picture looks excellent -- wonder if it's actually one from the batch being sold; police trade-ins tend to be good shooters but rougher cosmetically.
In the Internet Age, most volume sellers know what they have and what it's selling for. That price is a little too good.

I'm thinking Hapworth may be right. $339 for a 65 3" as pictured? Yea right. The one's they're selling will probably look like the delivery guy drug them to the buyers.

Well, judging by the other used guns they're selling, they take their own photos. Maybe they picked the best one of their batch for their camera model, however.
Maybe you can ask for the one in the photo?

I am not familiar with SOSS. However the website only has firearms. All the other categories are vacant. Why would they only sell firearms and no other product online? Anyone use them before?

I have not bought from them before. I actually bookmarked the site based on a forum recommendation. Can't remember if the rec was from this or the Ruger forum. They said you had to keep checking to catch the items in stock. Look at the prices on the 642s, LCR 22s, etc - that's why they said you had to keep checking.
Personally, I already have a 3" K, an aussie 10-4 and a 2.5" 66. I am debating whether or not I want a 3" K chambered in 357. I tire of trying to clean the gap in the cylinder caused by shooting only 38s out of my 357s.
But given the interest in 3" Ks, thought that I'd let you all know.

Please do. That seems like a fantastic deal for the gun pictured. Its still a fair price for a gun that needs a little TLC.

I have not, but a google search turned up several positive reviews on other forums for both good prices and good service.

I got my $210 Model 64 from SOSS.
Excellent gun/service.
Cleaned up pretty good for an ex-cop gun:

Same here. Nothing beats good used guns at good prices if the company is legit. Group buy anyone? LOL!

Now why would you do a silly thing like that? It says ".357" on the barrel. S&W's only caution is to keep the 124 grain usage to a minimum but she'll handle 158 grain all day every day. You'll wear your wallet out before you wear the gun out.

Believe me, I would have just ordered without thinking about it but I had just bought a near-mint 36 a few days earlier and was out of cash.
Anyhoo, hope some forum member(s) were able to take advantage of that deal! I'm sure they'd do the same for me.

Got one coming!
Mine should be here Thursday! Per FedEx tracking. Can't wait! Will take pics and give opinion as soon as I get it in my hands.
BTW: I paid $319 for mine on Friday before they upped the price.

Yes, gents, please do post pics of the one that you receive from the seller. It really piqued my interest and I already have a pristine Model 65-6 in three-inch.

Got two in yesterday. Both are decent shape, guns have been carried a lot and barely shot.
ETA: Well worth the money to me. I've been wanting a 3-inch Model 65 for quite some time.
Mostly cosmetic problems: - Uncle mike's grips are worn.
- Someone used a red marker all over the front sight (hopefully not dykem)
- Some rust under grips (not bad)
- Internals are gummed up slightly (easily cleaned)
- Light scratches all over
- A few small dings
Good things: - Barrel crowns are very nice
- Rifling and bore excellent
- Timing good
- Lockup good
- Action OK (will be better once internals are detailed)
These are Model 65-5:
Round Butt
Fixed front sight
Non-pinned barrel
Non-recessed chambers
I'll clean them up, and possibly polish. And shoot.

Looks like a good value for the money spent. Personally, I get a lot of satisfaction rehabbing a worn item and getting it in the best condition possible. I could see myself sitting in front of the TV for hours watching sports, all the while polishing those guns with Mother's.

The red front sight is painted, it will come off. I scrubbed it with some Hoppe's nitro solvent, it is starting to dissolve.
I disassembled the other revolver and cleaned the internals. Very little carbon buildup, but some gummy junk on the guts. Cleaned it all up good and gave it a checkup. Test fired six shots, works well. I'll pick up some Mother's Mag polish next week and cleanup the finish over the next few weeks. Once I get this one fixed up, I'll work on the other.
Yes, these 3-inch guns are just what I was looking for. I don't like buying things sight-unseen, but sometimes take a chance. I'm satisfied so far.

Looks a little rough....
....but I'm still glad I got it. Some surface rust on the trigger and hammer and generally dirty, like it was fired right before they traded it in. I think it'll clean up nicely.

I got one last year in similar shape to these. It cleaned up nicely and shoots very well. Mine is marked B.R.P.D. (Baton Rouge) A good carry piece.

Mine is a 65-5 with a BSJ serial number. My copy of SCSW shows BRF as Aug. 1994; the list then picks up in 2003. Other than a letter, is it possible to narrow this 65's age better than sometime in 9 years?
