Model 18-2?
I ran across a Model 18-2(.22) at a local pawn shop. I had not heard of this model. It is blued and is in a 4" format. I did a search on this site and cannot find a reference.
Can anyone shed some light on this model?

It is a great revolver. Essentially, it is a 22 version of a Combat Masterpiece, or Model 15. Back when such 38s were extremely common police/defense guns, the Model 18 was the perfect second wheelgun.

Are they common or rare? And what would be the price range for one in excellent condition?

They are fairly common. Currently 6-7 on Gunbroker and that seems about typical. I've seen several on the Classified forum here. IMO Excellent condition would probably be around $500-$600...a little more with box and accessories.

fairly common in this area. Going for about $500 at local gun shows. Take a look at gunbroker.com. I really enjoy mine.

Depends on conditon as around here they are very popular and if really nice sell for $600 and with the box and goodies $700. If one hits a LGS or Pawn Shop they don't last long.

I got mine in 1982 and have put a ton of ammo through it in thirty years. Found another nice one for my son about ten years ago @ $275 which was a steal. Today they would go for at least $450-$500. Or whatever it took to get it home.
If you only want the most useful, enjoyable revolver Smith ever made--grab it NOW. I guarantee you will not regret it.

Broad Arrow if you live in Canada can you own handguns with 4" barrels?
The Model 18 is the 4" Combat" version of the K22 ,
The dash 2 was the first 3 screw variation and is usually found with
Diamond Magna grips although Target grips were an option.
Late versions are found with non diamond grips.
Condition directly affects price but dash 2's are $500 to $750 around these parts.
They are great for plinking and as a companion gun to the Model 15 in .38 special and the longer 6" version Model 17.
Share some pictures when you pick it up, we love Model 18's.

In Canada we are not allowed 4"" or less barreld handguns unless we owned one prior to 1994 I was "grandfathered"

These are non-diamond magna grips. They look like "standard" S&W grips. They do not appear to be target grips.

Pic below.
I have neither a 15 or 17. Not that it matters if I want to buy another gun!

Very nice and well worth the asking price IMO.
The grips look correct and if removed will probably have a matching serial number stamped inside on one panel.
I have two 18-2's, The older one was shipped in 1966 and has its original diamond Magna grips,
The other is in the K-708500 range probably shipped in 1967 and has its original non diamond Magna grips just like yours.

Very nice example, very fair price. The fact that you'd never heard of one tells me that you may never see another one. Now,go get it!

The Model 18 is a great all around pistol for range & trail use. I have had mine since the mid-70's. I had the square butt modified to a round butt:

Looks like 1966.
They are great guns. I'd wanted one for years, but never saw one. I finally got word that my LGS had a "pre 18" for sale. I was halfway across the country, but called back and had them hold it for me.
They are a good match for a Combat Masterpiece/Model 15.
1951 38 Combat Masterpiece
1953 22 Combat Masterpiece
Both are great shooters.

The M18 was my first Handgun. I bought it right after my Discharge from the Army in 1967. I couple of years later I traded it for a German Luger. I always wanted to replace the 18, but never did. I presently Own a M63, and a 617 and at my age I will forget about another M18. As I remember it shot very well.

If there is a "K" in front of those numbers it should be about 1954. If there is anything else besides just a "K", please let us know.
