Model 13 question
I've got a three inch nickle Model 13-3 that is a pretty nice gun. However, when the cylinder is open and loaded with rounds, the heads of the rounds kinda catch on the cylinder stop that's pressed into the frame. What can I do to alleviate this? My 19-3 snub doesn't do it, and neither does my 642-1. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Mark: Is it possible your yoke is out of alignment (sprung)? I can't think of anything else.

Hey jframe, I went and got my M13-3 and loaded it to see if it happened. The rounds do not touch the stop but they do come very close to it. At one point I can barely see light between them.
Does it happen regardless of what kind of ammo you put in it? I'm not sure what you could do. Might try tapping it into the frame a fraction but I'd want to hear this from someone with more experience than me. And with it being nickel I think you would have to be real careful what you hit with. Hopefully someone that knows more about this will chime in. Hope you get it straightened out.

Also be sure there's no crud underneath the extractor that prevents it from seating fully.

No crud under extractor, and when the cylinder is open, there is just a little play back and forth on it. No more than what my other guns have though. I sure hope the crane isn't sprung; don't really know how to check for that. I would think that a sprung crane would have a fairly considerable gap between it and the frame though, and this one also looks pretty normal. Don't know; it's got me befuddled, and it does it with any ammo.

Has it been cleaned?
I know other members have stated that when shooting a lot of 38 Spl.'s thru the guns that build up prevents 357 magnums from fully seating...could this be the reason? Hope it is an easy fix for you! The 13's are great revolvers!

I have a Model 37 that does the same thing. I think this was a QA problem at S&W. In 20 plus years of owning 30 revolvers I have seen it on 2 of them and neither weapon had been fire alot carried alot or had any abuse that was visible. If the rim of the cartridge case hangs up on the cylinder stop when trying to eject the spent casings, if it is a carry piece send it o S&W for repair. If it is a range gun, then decide if you want to spend the money ongetting it repaired.
