Model 586 in .44 mag
A friends widow inherited a Custom Model 586 in .44 caliber mag. The specifications are:
44 magnum
10 barrel
Numbers inside the yoke:
E11
X8086 or 8986
She is trying to find a value or selling price for this revolver. I was unable to find any information about this M586. I live about 200 miles from her, so I have not seen this gun personally but have been told the revolver is about 95 - 98% original. I have attached a cell phone picture that was sent to me.
If anybody has any information, I would greatly appreciate hearing from them!
Thanks,
Ron

I've never heard of such a thing. I await the story behind this quite eagerly.

I've sure never heard of a 44 mag 586. I agree that the pic looks like a Model 29. 586 should have a full underlug barrel. Sounds weird.

The picture you posted was not an "L" frame .586 it was an "N" frame long barrel Model 29 in .44 magnum.
Condition and vintage are the driving force behind price ,
That looks to be a 29-3 Silhouette made from 1983 to 1991 with an adjustable front site.
Im not sure about that particular model but Im guessing about $650.00 in good condition.

I'm no expert here but it is hypothetically possible to build. It would have to be a 5 shot cylinder like the 696, but with the pressures involved on the .44 Mag as opposed to the .44 Spcl. I'd be a little scared of having a bomb in my hand. I would have to assume that it is much more likely to be a case of misidentification, with the gun either being a 29 or 586 silhouette model.

I would not want to be anywhere near that thing when it goes off, let alone shooting it.

Thank you for all the prompt responses. I finally managed to get a neighbor to go over and check the revolver. Lo and behold, the mystery is solved. As most repliers pointed out, this gun is indeed a Model 29-3. Unfortunately my S&W Revolver knowledge was not good enough to notice the wrong identification.
Thanks to all of the responders,
Ron

It's a Model 29 silhouette model with a four position front sight.

Guess is the keyword,Here. Not many of this configuration were made. Certainly an eyecatcher too. MARKET IT WELL, DON'T JUMP AT $650

Now I'm curious as to the value. I've only seen one for sale recently, on a local forum, and none on Gunbroker. Assuming it's tight and cosmetically nice, but not perfect, what's it worth?

It's a Model 29-3 Silhouette Model, I know where the exact twin of the gun is right now. I know John Taffin had Bowen Arms build a .41 Special on a 586 with a 5 shot cylinder, the .41 Special being a wildcat (I have played with it some myself) of the .41 Magnum. I don't know about it with the .44 Magnum though. If you want to PM me I will give you the name and phone number of the guy with his 29-3 10-inch, he's asking a fair price I know that.
