Default newbie question

Hi, I am looking for a used S&W revolver that shoots .38. I know the .357 will shoot them, but I am not sure what models over the years they have made that I can be on the look out for. Does anyone have a source that I can type in the caliber I am looking for and it would tell me which S&W models shoot the .38 special? I am looking for a longer barrel like a 6" if that makes a difference. I also don't care if it shoots the +P as I will probably never shoot that or .357 rounds in them. Thanks for the help...........Bandman

Welcome to the forum.

It sound like you are looking for a Model 10 (fixed sights), Model 14 (adjustable sights and six inch barrel) or Model 15 (adjustable sights and four inch barrel). There are other length barrels but those are the most common. It's hard to beat any of these models.

While there are many variants of 6 inch .38s available a couple of other things will need to be considered to find your match. Do you want a round or square butt frame, a partial or full lug barrel, K/L/N sized frame, blued or stainless, and what kind of sights you would like to use.

When you start to figure all of this out it can be a little overwhelming, but it makes it much easier if you just buy one of each!
