You see engraved N frames with hand tooled leather over in the older revolver forums called "BBQ guns"

I've got a little nickel Mod 36 (1982 vintage, right after the pinned barrel went away) with fancy grips and a El Paso Saddlery holster that I think would be a BBQ gun!

IF... your BBQ had about a gallon of Kingsford charcoal in a $20 Wal-Mart grill.

S&W used to sell these grips as a in-house aftermarket kinda' deal, I think they called them "Dymondwood" or somthing and had every color under the rainbow including camo.

Some of them had a pretty good look & grain...

... you don't see them much but they're a little part of collecting history.:)

Beautiful Gun!!!!

Here's what I found on Dymondwood:
Sometimes refererred to by the generic name of COMPREG, DymondWood® is a highly engineered wood/plastic composite, that has the physical and mechanical properties of high density hardwood, acrylic, polycarbonate plastics and brass.

Brightly dyed northern hardwood veneers are combined with engineering grade resins, heat and pressure to create a product that has the best characteristics of each.

DymondWood® is distinguished by its unique strength, durability, dimensional stability, and weather and moisture resistance as compared to regular wood.

My Barbecue Gun would be my Custom 1911 Colt.

I do not have a revolver that quite makes the grade of Barbecue Gun yet. My version of a Barbecue Revolver would have a Hi Polish Blue finish. Probably something Exotic like a 3" Model 24, with some WOW wood grips on it.

That is a very nice 36 by the way.

I picked up a nickel 36 a couple of weeks ago. I can blame Thom B for that. I got an Uncle Tio holster from him a year or so ago. I reckon I'm all set.

Being somewhat new around here, I am at a loss as to what a "barbecue gun" is. When I am barbecuing on my porch, I tend to not have to pack a weapon.

At any rate, nice gun and holster

I think Texans started the tradition. You dress up in your Sunday go to meetin' duds, your fanciest boots and Stetson and naturally your finest and fanciest shootin' iron and the appropriate rig for packin' it. You strut your stuff at the local BBQ and mebbe after chow there might just be some informal shootin' and BS'n take place.

The tradition has expanded across the SW and in some other places too, including SE Wyoming.:)

BARBECUE GUN
I believe it is a Texas Tradition to bring your nicest handgun to a Barbecue to show it off. So everyone trys to have the neatest handgun at the Barbecue. That normally means a Mint Condition Highly Engraved Beauty. Kinda Like a Trophy Wife, only much Cheaper, and Lower Maintenance to keep up. And it will not take your house when you decide to trade it off.

Just like guns, there's different kinds of BBQs. Some of'em fancy, some of'em just burning meat.
Gail that gun and holster would be welcome at any of my BBQs.
Very nice pics...again.

I'm content with my George Foreman grill, a couple of 16 oz. cans of Pit Bull malt liquor and my 2" Model 625-4 on my hip. After a couple of Pit Bulls the bright kydex holster abrasions between the cylinder flutes even look like fancy engraving.

Yea, around here BBQ's are very much a casual affair, not much trying to one up the others, other than getting the wife/girlfriend to look as good as possible :p

The Kingsford, tabletop $20 grill, an ice cold PBR and that beauty of a piece strapped on. Thats living!

Salmon on the grill, Henry McKenna in a glass and Dos Equis Amber in the bottle, and this Model 37 on my belt:

Just waiting for some horn grips and an adapter...
